Annwyn, Beneath the Waves

A few weeks ago I was perusing the used cd bins at a local independent record store when I came across Faith and the Muse's "Annwyn, Beneath the Waves". I am not really familiar with the band except for one other album "The Burning Season" (and I liked what I heard). I thought this would be a good time to become a little more familiar with the group's music and I bought the cd.

I have to admit that the music took some time to grow on me. I had to listen to "Annwyn, Beneath the Waves" a few more times for the music to sink into my subconsciousness. It is difficult to peg down Faith and the Muse's sound. Their sound on the album ranges from goth to medieval folk music. I like that their sound isn't easy to categorize. There are times ... I was disappointed that this only had 2 songs on it! I didn't even know that they made CD's with only one or two songs on them. I ordered it for my son for Christmas. Read the fine print is all I've got to say!

The Burning Season

This recording by FAITH AND THE MUSE is by far the most coherent. Not enough to say that it is their best, since I still believe ANWYYN BENEATH THE WAVES is their best rendition to date. Certainly it is more than worth listening to. It catches and surprises. You may be hooked with the power that springs from the initial tracks and then be transported literally to "The Amber Room", maybe only a step away from heaven. The guitar work is excellent, not to mention the interplay between the voice and the walls of sound. Enjoy it.

Time Is Running Out

Sing for Absolution

Being a big fan of Muse and having seen them live, I knew what I was getting when I bought this CD/DVD. I wanted to see the Video of Sing for Absolution and see what these guys could put together.

The CD only has 2 songs Absolution and Fury. The song Fury is one of the best low bass songs I believe I have ever hear and if nothing else it alone was worth the $12.

There is a depressing point of the DVD it is made overseas so I could not watch it on my regular DVD player and thus had to use my PC DVD player.

All around great work again by MUSE!!

stunning melodies framed with absolutely brutal guitar, bass and drums. great lyrics too. haunting, uplifting and rockin'. what could be better?
