One of the CD's I love to listen to over and over again. One song in particular is so steamy hot that I feel like taking a cold shower after I listen to it. Another song makes me long for a quiet romantic evening alone with the perfect man.

Up to this point in my life(over half a century), no other male SOUL-R/B-JAZZ-POP singer has staked his claim over Marvin, his body of work is insurmountable..., what impresses as much if not more than Marvin's vocal stylings and lyrics, are the creation and composition of the Background vocals, on "Let's get it On" and more specifically..."I Want You", I have not heard anything, ANYTHING, close to being as good as or better!
IF ever in his lifetime he wanted to create Music as close to God and Perfection that he could make...in my humble opinion, "I Want You" is that is just that...

I have the recent Marvin Gaye Deluxe remasters of What's Going On; Let's Get It On and I Want You.
I don't have anything earlier though and Disc 1 of this set is perfect for me and I like having Disc 2 anyway.
Disc 1 has all the early hits before Marvin took total charge of his career and recordings. All the early hits are here and nicely mastered.

I Have many of the "GOLD" sets and I appreciate them. Yes, sometimes they are a repackage of an existing sets (see Yes: Gold) but other sets are pretty unique and very necessary.

If you need a good Marvin Gaye Compilation this is where to start.

Trouble Man

I bought this after I happened to see part of the movie "Four Brothers" which featured a couple of songs from this soundtrack... (i.e. Chloe's Apt. and Trouble Man). Wow. The song "Trouble Man" is hands down the coolest song I have ever heard. It is worth buying just for that song. This is a solid soundtrack... mostly instrumental.... it has a nice cohesive feel so you can just let it play. If someone is harshing your mellow, put this on and everything will be allright.

Every word in all these reviews about Marvin's soul and artistry is 100% correct There's another reason to own this fantastic collection and that is the presence of the honorable James Jamerson on the electric bass. His beautiful lines, touch and deep tone are still unequaled to this day. Unlike so many bassists who climb to the high notes for notice, Jamerson always found the deep notes that would grab you in the heart. To be able to hear James recreate the fantastic work he did on What's Going On live in concert is priceless to any one who loves his playing.
Long live the King of the Fender bass who did some of his most remarkable work with the King of Soul, Marvin Gaye
