Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs

This may well be the greatest album of Marty Robbins' career. He seemed to have a passion for the Western music, although he was one of the greatest "crooners" in Country music as well.
I only have one complaint here and that is the inclusion of the "chopped up" version of El Paso, and (I guess technically two complaints) that the full length version of the song is not in stereo. I mean, come on, if the edited version is edited from the full length recording (and it was with one verse edited out) and the edited version was recorded in stereo, then wouldn't it just go unsaid that the full length version should be in stereo as well??
All in all this is a great album.

I have a couple Marty Robbins CDs. This one is my favorite. Really enjoy the collection of songs. Would recommend this CD without hesitation.

My Rifle, My Pony and Me (Western Movies Songs)

I bought this CD for the title song. It is the same as in the movie "Rio Bravo" (my husband's favorite movie which we watch all the time). There is a strange intro by John Wayne but doesn't take away from the song, which seems to be cut off at the end just a few seconds too soon. I like several other selections, including the theme from "The Searchers". The others are OK with some that are strange. Why have Lorne Greene half/talk-half/sing the "Bonanza" theme? Just give me the real thing. The CD has songs you wouldn't find just anywhere and I like that. I really wanted the Dean Martin/Ricky Nelson title song and the CD was worth it to me.

I bought this CD, and also another, to gather most of the older, and his later too, songs which caused me to become a Marty Robbins fan, per se'... I like the western trilogy songs like El Paso and Faleena, etc., but really enjoy the songs such as Honky Tonk Man and Some Memories, etc., as well... And who could forget Padre... Just another purchase I made to which I was very happy with... Thanks!

This has to one of his best songs ever. The whole cd is excellant..takes me back to being a kid again...when things were more peaceful. Lot of memories with this cd.....it is GREAT!

Christmas with Marty Robbins

I found this to be a pedestrian effort at Christmas Music, not original or upbeat. The quality of the CD was below average, and it came with no liner notes.
If you want classic country Christmas music look to Hank Thompson, Eddy Arnold, Randy Travis or Buck Owens.
Most Christmas music reviews are of the 'I listened to this when I was a kid and was thrilled to find it on CD here's 5 stars yadda yadda' variety. I completely understand this type of review, but they're not very helpful.
I just wanted solid, mid 60's sounding country Christmas music, avoid this CD unless you are a Marty Robbins fan.

Listening to Marty Robbins sing these Gunfighter Ballads with each song one after another, Marty never fail's to paint a picture in your mind. I remember my dad playing these record's when we were kids,songs like El Paso,Big Iron,The Masters Call etc.. My dad just recently passed down these same original record's over to me for my collection.I always had the first Gunfighter Ballads on cd,and never could find the second installment until now,probably never in print.This is a German import,remastered,inner sleeve notes,what a classic compilation,should've been a double album.I was surprised reading the notes,Marty and the Glaser bros.recorded the first gunfighter record in one day,revealing how truly talented Marty Robbins really was and is with no doubt,the true voice of the west.
