Fado, that melancholy-drenched staple of Portuguese music, features sad ballads about love, the sea, and the life of the poor, backed by buoyant steel-string guitar. From the most famous fadistas such as Amalia Rodrigues, several young contemporary fadistas such as Misia, Mariza, Maria Ana Bobone, and Ana Moura have stepped in to continue fado into the 21st century and beyond.

O silencio da guitarra open the cd but the greatest moments are Cavaleiro monge, the words are from a poem of Fernando Pessoa, but the best song here is for me Vielas de Alfama who talk about the famous place in Lisbon where the fado was born.

These CD's (it's a set of 2) are THE best music I have EVER heard. The quality is top notch and the selections are amazing. I have it in my car and have not been able to change to any other CD's. I play it louder and louder and louder. I am not a fan of loud music but this music BEGS to be loud. The variety is amazing. Every song becomes my favorite until I hear the next cut. I believe this set captures the true sense of countries best musicians both vocal and instrumental. As each song progresses you actually get carried away with the rhythms.
The way the cuts are placed in the CD's flow and you're on your way into the world of worldly music. I cannot recommend it highly enough, it needs more than 5 stars! Not to be missed!

Fado Curvo

This is a worthy successor to her debut album _Fado Em Mim_ and is just as good. Fado is similar to Spanish flamenco music (I mean "old school flamenco") in that both genres are stifled by tradition. There are people who resist new songs being written and think that the best performers died a long time ago. The New Flamenco movement saved flamenco and made it live again. Fado desperately needs such a movement. I had hoped that Ala Dos Namorados would start it, but they turned out to be a pop band. They are excellent, but they are not the vanguards of a Novo Fado movement. Mariza is fado's bright hope, a talented visionary who will breathe life into this worthy genre and cause it to live for future generations.
