I had heard of this album in 1992, and since then I had not found it available in Brazil. Fortunatelly, I've got it through Amazon now. Despite of the fact that it is not played in the strict baroque style, Battle/Marsalis are great, brilliant, and they turn the difficult duets into delightfull virtuosism. The duets were very well selected, and some I did not know until now, which are also wonderful. This is the kind of CD anyone would enjoy, and I do recommend it.

I really enjoyed listening to this cd. His voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. I especially enjoy listening to "Last Morning of my Life". It includes songs made famous by others such as"Back on my Feet" and "Young Girl". I have his other cd which features music from various operas. I would say you won't be sorry that you bought this cd!!!!!!

Mozart: Serenade for 13 Winds "Gran Partita"

There's not much more I can add to the reviews below. This is a superb performance of an absolutely beautiful work. The Serenade is written for 13 winds (2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassett horns, 4 horns, 2 bassoons, and 1 contrabass). What Mozart is able to do over the course of seven movements is simply astonishing. The variety, colors and sonorities are amazing when you realize this is a chamber work.

The members of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, lead by Sir Charles Mackerras turn in an impeccable performance. The sound quality is terrific too, with plenty of air and space around the instruments. The Score

I actually bought the CD BECAUSE of the background "score". I bought the movie, and did listen to the other music (Diana Krall, etc.), and it was nice...but I enjoyed the atmospheric aspect of the Shore tracks. A CD of the other tracks might be a true "soundtrack", but I took the title of the movie as literal metaphorically. Shore's music absolutely tracks with the movie. It wasn't a great soundtrack, I grant you. But I think it is much better than what credit (or lack thereof) it seems to be receiving from other reviewers.

The War That Made America: The Story of the French and Indian War

This CD is listenable and has some nice music, but has nothing memorable. There is no rousing main theme that I expect from a soundtrack and many of the songs are not particularly good. If you are interested in music from this period, get the soundtracks to "Last of the Mohicans, The Patriot, and A&E's Revolution" (if you can find and afford that last one). Pass on this one.

The Chamber: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Yes, this is a case where the music is much better than the film. There is an interesting combination of moody country inflection from David Torn's guitar with heavy dark orchestral movement.
