This collection from the early years of Manuel Barrueco is one of the best values you'll find. It's 3 discs long and contains some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard. I've owned this set once before and had to buy it again because my original CDs were worn out from ware and tear. Highly recommended for anyone starting a serious classical guitar collection.

This disc reminded me of Leonard Bernstein's conducting: somehow many of his conducting session became marches. Many tracks on this disc is like that. I am a novice when it comes to classical music, so part of allure of this disc was that it contained many titles I didn't recognize, so it wasn't a total loss. I guess I should have read the track listing more carefully... what is Washington Post by Sousa doing on dance compilation?

Bride's Guide to Wedding Music

If you're looking for a good collection of classic wedding music and nice, not funky, traditional, well performed versions, then this CD is all you need. There's nothing modern on here, but it will give you the traditional stuff that you probably don't already have in your collection.

I'm an opera neophyte but even I can tell that this inexpensive 2-disk set is a low quality production. This is a collection of late-career live performances, late-career studio performances and a few studio tracks from the 1970s. Maestro Domingo's voice is not in top form on many of the tracks, in others the orchestra drowns out the voice, and the sound is unbalanced and muddy throughout. If there's any saving grace it is that this is a diverse and unusual collection (no 'Nessun Dorma' to be found here). In my opinion these two disks are not a good introduction to the great operatic tenor Placido Domingo.

I have been looking for a nice rendition of the "Rodrigo, Concierto de Aranjuez" for quite some time. In the 1970's, Time-Life put out a composer series LP's which, if you bought, would send you one composer a month. My father ordered it and the Rodrigo was new to us. We spent many hours listening to the Concierto and I have no idea who the guitarist was.

Since that time, I have had several recordings of this piece, none to my liking. Although the Christopher Parkening performance displays astounding technique. Then I heard this pleasing recording on the radio (NPR) while driving on a road trip. I missed who it was by when I tuned in but I knew the piece well enough to identify it and looked it up on line when I got to my destination. ... Read More:

I personally listened to Manuel Barrueco playing life some years ago. I am very impressed with his guitar techniques - he is just as good as John Williams. I don't think I'll need to explain who Astor Piazzolla is?

These cd's are a great set of varied classical music. Pavane is my favorite. Additionally, Classical Chillout 2 offers theme music from Harry Potter and it is very well done.
