A couple of good songs, but all in all a bit too squared off. Not much imagination, roots music doesn't have to be so dry. I was drawn to her by her appearance at the Gram Parson Tribute concert. When she has great songs to sing she is really fine.

World Without Tears

This woman is a poet of growing power, a singer of rare expressiveness, backed by a band that can find its way from a country slide to acid distortion in a few bars. Delicious reverb on some of the tracks, and I cannot resist a quote from one of her many beautifully broken-hearted songs: "I wanna see the ocean bend the edges of the sun..." Gorgeous! I have the 2004 Australasian Tour Version of this Album. Raw language here and there, and rightly so. I'm a guy, but this woman's heart speaks to me. The title song is an amazing piece of lyricism, a bending of grammar and meaning to the purposes of an anguished soul. Her words and rhythms echo in my brain for days after I've listened to her. Essence

I saw Lucinda at Bumerbershoot in Seattle this summer. It was at Memorial Stadium, which is a bad place for live music (accoustically), but the song Essence just blew me away. Quickly it has become my summer of '08 theme song. I'm an old fart, and I like every kind of music, but she seems to have the ability to hit that bluesy nerve right smack dang hard and sexy too. Makes me want to do a little dance with a shady woman in a smoky honky tonk. Gonna have to review her entire song book on Itunes and make my own LW's greatest hits CD ... definitely going to include that Drunken Angel song too.

I saw her recently on the David Letterman Show perform a song from her new disc and I can't say I wanted to run out and buy it. But this CD has something for everyone; rock, blues, great lyrics... There are two versions of "Side of the Road" on it. One is a studio recording and another is live. I go back and forth between which one I like better. She is a very good song writer who speaks from the heart. Her voice can be a little edgy at times but she is original. I also like "Something about what happens" as a ballad with great lyrics and acoustic guitar playing. My friend Jim and I did a backpacking trip and drove 10 hours to get to the trailhead. He had this tape in his car and I was hooked after the first time he popped it in. A great album and association with it.

Live @ The Fillmore

I have been trying to listen this album for some time but it's intolerable.

I listen to Lucinda constantly, have for years, she is a wonderful and soulful artist, I certainly dig her whole style and groove but this performance is just depressing so out of my life it goes. It really upsets me to hear her sounding so bad, it is puzzling how this performance was so bad and why it was released! We should have been spared this.

It really upsets me to hear her sounding so bad, it is puzzling how this performance was so bad and why it was released! We should have been spared this.
