Language is a work of love by Lorraine. You can feel it through the speakers, warm and loving. And it's just not her heart you hear, but a suburb recording. That adds to the emotional impact as well. Audiophiles, wake up and load this disk! The great Bernie Grundman himself did the mastering. I love the redo of Where Are My Keys and Very Unbecoming, they are really different but very good. I have Five. Everything should not be the "same as it ever was", variety is what life is all about. It's good for you.
This body of music will please anybody who ever enjoyed (LOVED) the Full Swing discs. Check it.
Thank you Ms Plumetune and Sir Tony Clock-a-lot! Keep trying so hard.

I first heard Lorraine Feather's voice while driving in Seattle and listening to the jazz station. The song was "Remembering to Breathe". My first thought was "What a beautiful voice". Then I started listening to the lyrics -- at which point my second thought was "I've GOT to get this CD. This song is so poignant and captures the essence of both my occupation and my belief system". Now, how often does that happen? To be honest, that song actually made me both cry and smile -- it was that beautiful. So, I took myself to the store, came out with "Dooji Wooji" and popped the CD into my car CD player. You know how, sometimes when you buy a CD for one song, the rest of the CD is just so-so? Not so with "Dooji Wooji". The ENTIRE CD is fantastic. ... Read More:

"She is a musician - not all singers are - and she knows that jazz can be fun and so is she. She's really got it. . . Few singers today could recreate that singular Ellington ambience that brings a listener deep into his own life, dreams and losses, and then swing into the joy of jazz." ~ Nat Hentoff ~
I didn't realize there are more stunning Duke Ellington melodies that I haven't even heard of until this remarkable album of Lorraine Feather, "Such Sweet Thunder" which is a personal tribute to his timeless music. Ms. Feather penned the lyrics and set them to creatively match the music of jazz greats, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. I admire her ability to write intelligent and meaningful lyrics that anyone could relate to. She's been ... Read More:

Fats Waller, 1904-43, wrote 400+ tunes, many of which hold up well today. "Honeysuckle Rose," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and "Keepin' Out of Mischief Now" spring immediately to mind. However, Ms Feather chose to write lyrics to 12 of Waller's piano pieces which had never previously had words. This was a more than challenging task. Waller was one of jazz's greatest pianists and swung as hard as any pianist of his or any other day. He played with a forceful stride pattern in the left hand and elaborate and syncopated melodic lines in the right hand. Oftentimes the complex cascade of notes had a pace that was nearly unbelievable.
Lorraine Feather has created clever, fascinating and sometimes hilarious narratives for each song. Waller's "The Minor Drag" becomes a rapid-fire ... Read More:

This music on Café Society is shimmering, sophisticated and delightful. Lorraine Feather gets kudos for assembling top west coast talent (Mike Lang, Peter Erskine, Oscar Bashear, etc.) and producing music that is always interesting to the ear. Ms Feather writes stunning lyrics for songs from various collaborators and for a couple Ellington compositions as well ("Rockin' in Rhythm" and "Creole Love Call"). Songs are mostly in a classic, pre-bop jazz style with acoustic instrumentation, although a few lean toward the sounds of soft, contemporary jazz.
Lorraine Feather is the daughter of Jane (former big band singer) and Leonard Feather, famous jazz critic, record producer and pianist/lyricist/composer. After some early theater jobs, Ms Feather sang with various jazz and rock ... Read More:

This CD was my introduction to the fabulous talents of Lorraine Feather. The production here is more pop-oriented than her jazz CDs that followed, but the integrity of the songwriting is intact, and I never tire of listening to the songs themselves. My favorites are the title cut, Where Are My Keys and Very Unbecoming, but I really love them all. Since sound samples aren't offered here on amazon, try going to CDBaby and listening to excerpts there - this is a WONDERFUL CD of great music you're sure to enjoy if you like artists like Steely Dan, Sting, Joni Mitchell, etc. - although Lorraine has her own sound.
