Love and War

Originally released in 1989, Lillian Axe's sophomore album Love and War was one of the best (and until now, hardest to find) melodic hard rock albums of the 80's. The New Orleans band was worlds better than the average hair metal band, and had a highly melodic sound similar to bands like Hurricane, Winger and Enuff Z'Nuff.

Lillian Axe is one of those bands that can do no wrong. I think their 1988 self-titled debut album is a nearly perfect melodic rock album, but Love and War may be even better. Stevie Blaze and Ron Taylor were a really dynamic songwriting team, and they really shine here. Poetic Justice

I'll never understand how this band went unnoticed. Talent like this deserved a whole lot better than they got. Poetic Justice is incredible!

Where to begin. The songwriting is superb, light years ahead of many of the other bands that were popular in the late 80's/early 90's. The songs range from soulful ballads to light-hearted melodic rock to straight up rockers. The lyrics are meaningful but not sappy or over-the-top. Lots of great harmonies in the vocals. Tight guitars, great drumming that supports the bass, rythm, and vocals without overpowering them. Just all-around great musicianship.

You don't often see debut albums this strong. Most bands need a couple of releases to really nail down their sound, but Lillian Axe was in top form right from the start. I'm sure some of the credit for that goes to Ratt's Robbin Crosby, who produced the album, but you can't underestimate guitarist Stevie Blaze's songwriting skills. Live 2002

An absolutely great live recording of one of the "hidden gems" of 80's metal. As "live" albums go, this is an excellent recording as the production and sound quality are great. The band's playing is tight and the songs sound as good as ever.
I've always felt Lillian Axe's songs had an anthemic feel to them and that comes across here. Stevie Blaze's guitar playing is as strong as ever and he drives the band throughout. Ron Taylor's vocals are simply put - awesome. He delivers on every level, from the ballads to the powerhouse anthems.

THIS BAND IS GREAT! I ONLY WISH THEY PUT OUT MORE CDS IN THE FUTURE ! STEVE BLAZE HAS A NEW GREAT BAND CALLED NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE. RON TAYLOR HAS A CD OUT CALLED THE BRIDGE. ALL THE SONGS ON THIS CD ARE GREAT. I LIKE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! REALLY GOOD SONGS,VERY GOOD MUSICIANS, STEVE BLAZE RIPS! LONG LIVE THE AXE!

First saw Show A Little Love on headbanger's ball back in the day. Bought this CD and the whole CD is great. From catchy, semi-corny tunes like My Number and She Likes It On Top, Catchy hook tunes like Down On You and Show A Little Love, and great melodic tunes like Ghost Of Winter. This CD has a little bit of everything to offer from the time period and its excellent. Hard as hell to find and expensive when you do...but worth it. If for nothing more than the Best Cover of the Hair Metal Era (The inside is even better!).

Lillian Axe is possibly the best little known 80's "hair band" and this CD has most of their best early tracks. From anthems like "Show a Little Love" to power ballads such as "Nobody Knows" Lillian Axe shows they have the licks to be considered in the same class as bands like Slaughter, Firehouse, and other powerhouse pop metal bands. However, they also write non-formulaic songs like "Ghost of Winter" and "World Stopped Turning". If you love 80s metal and are looking for a different band who will blow you away, then buy this album!
