Les Paul has been a massive influence by both his playing and technical innovations. This made it fitting to have a tribute CD collection come out now. However as some have stated it does not really contain all the players we associate the most with playing a Les Paul, if that was the idea. However it is rather nice. It is, as the title implies, very very american in the way it is played and that may not allways be a blessing since his playing and instruments ahve sometimes been used with mroe impact both British guitarists (here I mean stylistically). If you have only one Les Paul Trio CD in your collection, this is the one to have. These tracks foreshadow all the licks, tricks, harmonic signatures and ideas Les used to develop his "new sound" several years later. Those familiar with his work in the late forties through the early sixties will immediately recognized the genesis of his multi-track "sound." The playing is outstanding and there are a couple of gems with the likes of Joe Venuti and Kay Starr.
