I love this band. This CD is a return to form. Heavy, and dark in spots, but still full of their amazing harmonies, and talent. If you like this band, this is a MUST have. So get your today.
Release Date October 15, 1990
In the CD copy of the Faith Hope Love I have owned for 17 years, is a dollar bill signed by Doug Pinnick and Jerry Gaskill (because Ty Tabor never came out of the tour bus - he probably still doesn't). And I remember them looking at me puzzled when I asked them to sign it, but just had to explain ... it's the only piece of paper I got. It is also the only 'rock' signature/autograph I have ever possessed. I have never sought out those I admired, bought and respected. No hanging out at the airport or hotel lobby, or waiting around their second home's garden gates waiting to catch a glimpse. Except for King's X. I'd wait around after their shows with a whole host of other fans, hoping to tell them how much I loved them and that they mattered in my life. ... Read More:

Let's get one thing straight. There is no equal to this band in rock and this cd proves it.The riff in Fall On Me,2:34 in,says it all.Ive seen them live six times and left each show completely amazed. It's not just the obvious technical ability of Ty,Dug and Jerry, but the incredible compositional skills and above all TASTE.These guys know the space between the notes is just as important as the notes themselves.Thank you Kings X.There is no equal.

Just the title of this CD, THE BLACK MADONNA Pilgrim Songs from the Monastery of Montserrat (1400-1420) is timely, given the current interest in Gnostic scriptures, Mary Magdalene, the Cathars and the Knights Templar.
The image of Montserrat's particular Black Madonna is believed by some to be a hidden representation of Mary Magdalene, who is supposed to have fled to (what we now call) France, where she bore the child of her husband/lover Jesus. A few people (myself included) have formulated a connection between the ancient Egyptian Mother Goddess Isis, the Gnostic Sophia, the Christian Virgin Mary, and (also Gnostic) Mary Magdalene. According to the Isis theory, the esoteric color of The Goddess was black because it represented the mystical mound (pyramid) ... Read More:

I bought this album many years ago after hearing about what a great band King's X was. I wasn't disappointed and I actually feel like this is one of the top hard rock/grunge albums of the 90s. Most of the songs are very mellow and sad but if you are into that kind of stuff then you will definitely like them. Some of my favorites are Dogman, Pretend and Fool You.
Release Date October 25, 1990
As much as I LOVE King's-X, this album is certainly not worthy of all of the gushing praise lavished upon it.
For sure the listener can hear the beginnings of the great music that Gretchen, FHL, and later efforts represent. But I really think that people are reflecting on Silent Planet with a bit too much nostalgia.
Release Date March 10, 1992
This record opened me to King's X. I now own all of their work (including solo stuff). For the longest time I felt like I was the only one who "knew". I remember going to see them a long time ago and being really happy that there was a place full of people who also "knew". Nowhere near as many as should "know" though. This is a very talented band that should have been huge for a long time now. Buy this record and then start buying all of the others. Most all of the reviews I've read for all of their stuff are accurate. Get on board and take the journey. Come on!!
Release Date April 21, 1998
When I first played this CD, my downstairs neighbor came up and begged me to lend it to him. I know why. It contains one hauntingly lovely piece after another, all played with exquisite taste. The recordings were made a long time ago, so this may be the only CD that will ever become available from this Argentinian group. I plan to give it as a gift to special people, including my composer brother, who writes for the flute--to encourage him to write for the recorder, too. Highly recommended.

First let me say that I have loved King's X since Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (which is simply one of the greatest hard rock albums ever recorded and I bought OOTSP within 2 weeks) have seen them multiple times and think Ty Tabor is one of the best guitarists out there. I also agree with the reviewers who think this is one of the most underappreciated bands in the history of rock music.
But, after reading all the negative comments concerning the sound of this album, I never bought it and I'm glad I didn't. A friend recently got a used copy; I listened to his, and must say that there is just NO EXCUSE, in this day and age, for a live album to sound THIS awful!! It's HORRIBLE!!
For comparison - a few months ago I reviewed Riot's live album "Shine On" and it sounded just ... Read More:

Ever since Gretchen goes to Nebraska, and Dogman Unfortunately I don't think Kings X will ever be the same. I dont know why. I have no idea why Doug opted to make a cd with Reb Beach(The Mob). Ive heard XV and seems mediocre at best. I wish they could get there old magic back but I dont see it happening.
