Well, its not nearly as good as Until We Felt Red, and there are some really weak tracks like Pull Me Out Alive, which is really dumbed down and has a very simple structure, almost sounds like Tegan and Sarah or something. The music seems to lack the creativity of her previous efforts, and many of the instrumental songs sound underdeveloped, as in they come off as sections of a larger work that doesn't quite complete. The guitar work isn't nearly as interesting as her other records, with the exception of Air and Kilometers.
But that being said, its still not a horrible album, and it does grow on you a bit, so its worth a download. The best tracks are, Saving Days in a Frozen Head, and Air and Kilometers.

I've posted comments elsewhere on this series of reviews. It seems the defenders of Ms. King's cd are a little defensive, as are the ones who didn't care for her music. I have to admit, I was excited by the idea that a new acoustic monster had put a cd out. I listened to the samples in the store, and was "wow'ed" by her varied and aggressive style of guitar playing. The employee had pointed her cd out to me, and he too, made reference to M. Hedges guitar style. Like a herd of lemmings, I walked out of the store with the cd in hand, looking forward to listening through it.
I got home and (I have to say) tried to listen straight through, but was put off by the lack of a feeling that K. King's music was thought through--even as I ... Read More:

In her 2nd album, Legs to Make Us Longer, Kaki King focuses on more compositional aspects, from the whole album's structure to each piece's sonority, than performance techniques. Alignment of chords in the first track and melancholic arpeggios in the last frame the album. Probably the album's most representative work, "Doing the Wrong Thing," displays distinctive sonorities, such as strings at the end and rhythmic counterpoint between Ben Perowsky's drums and King's guitar. With drums and bass, "Ingots" and "My Insect Life" (also featuring King's voice) are reminiscent of New Wave Rock in the 80s, whose influence would become more apparent in her later albums. Having confidence in musicianship after the debut album, King is seemingly searching the next.

Actually, I'm fairly certain there are other great guitar players out there; they just don't have record deals yet. With that said, Kaki is making the music I've waited a long time to hear. Will Ackerman was my first exposure to instrumental guitar. Then Hedges, who was amazing. But Kaki is special, in my opinion. With diversity and maturity in her songwriting, Kaki is easily making the music I've waited so long to hear. I can't play it, but I knew it was out there... somewhere.
