I absolutely loved Limon y Sal, and so I was surprisingly dissapointed with this album. I think the main reason is that it sounds like the music engineer messed up the vocal recording. The vocals aren't nearly as clear and expressive as in Limon y Sal. Also, the acoustic arrangements didn't do much for me, which is surprising because I've loved just about every other MTV Unplugged album that I've ever had. On the other hand, I did enjoy getting to hear a selection of Julieta's older songs, and I like "El Presente", so overall it is a nice album to have.

Limon y Sal

I had heard "Limon y Sal", the song, a long time ago and loved it. When I first listened to the CD I was surprised to hear 3 other songs I recognized from the radio. I know very little Spanish, but with the lyrics included, I can sing along. It's fun to listen to with catchy tunes!

Mexican singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas somewhat of a breakthrough album, as she left behind her previous punk/rock sound to a more pop style. The change apppears upfront in the album's kitschy cover, showing Julieta as a traditional bride dressed in white against a pink background. Predictably, some people have accused Julieta of selling out, but there are many great songs here: Lento (great video as well), the mexican folk-inspired Andar conmigo, Algo esta Cambiando, Oleada and others. This was her first work produced by Coti Sorokin and Cachorro Lopez, and the results are better (at least in my opinion) than the previous productions by Gustavo Santaolalla. For me, is the must original and best album from Venegas. Unless the next titles put the singer in the lists, i'm sure than this work is the best composition in the Mexican Rock music. The lyrics are related perfectly with the mexican culture, and explain many woman senses like can't be totally free but release from his predators.

I dare to say than this is the best work from Julieta Venegas to they puclic. Unless SI and SAL Y LIMON albums sell more copies, don't show the strength in the voice of the artist.

I've purchased a LOT of music in the past year and Limon y Sal is my favorite of them all. I have Julieta's other CDs and this is her best. There isn't a single song on Limon y Sal that I don't like. Not many albums are good from top to bottom and Julieta shows off her range and charming personality on this CD more than on her others. Julieta has an amazing voice and a slightly quirky quality that I can't explain. This album is good even if you don't understand Spanish. The music holds up on its own. I recommend that fans get the dual disc version, with the behind the scenes footage of the recording process and the Me Voy video. I wish that the DVD side included the videos for Eres Para Mi and, well.....Limon y Sal (Duh!) as those are quite enjoyable ... Read More:
