Ok, so, comparing the soundtrack and the original album to this, we are missing a couple songs. You really need Blood Money to get the full effect, yet this version seems to do well without it, despite the fact it is a key song. The song from the movie soundtrack is not necesarily needed, but I thought it was a good addition. Musically, I like the updates. And Mary Magdelene, OH-MY-FRICKING-GOD!!!! The Mary's on the other versions are great and right for the time, but Renee Castle is phenomenal, I don't care what anyone says. "I don't know...love him" had me in tears. Of the three, I think this is the best version I've heard. She combines he best of the two previous Mary's and yet is a unique and wonderful Mary Magdelene. For that reason ... Read More:

Wow. If I were only able to own one recording of "Evita," this is the one for which I would reach. The highs on this album are breathtaking, and the lows are few. Matt Rawle's Che is a sarcastic, scathing decrier of the Peron regime. Philip Quast's Peron is absolutely brilliant. His deep rich baritone gives him the authority and, when necessary, the concern needed for the part of Peron. The Mistress in this recording is brilliant too, heartbreaking and just the right age. (Other recordings have had Mistresses who were either far too old or far too young.) Magaldi is a happy medium, not as ridiculous as some I have heard, but nothing to write home about either. Of course, the real star of this recording is Elena Roger, the only Evita to date who is ... Read More:

Andrew Lloyd Webber has sunk to new lows with this boring adaptation of the novel. The music just goes on and on with tuneless melodies and mock-classic arrangements. The lyrics are just rambling sentences with little rhyme or reason.
He hasn't written a good score sense "Sunset Boulevard." He needs to find a good lyricist and stop plagarizing Puccini.

'Les Noces and other choral music' is centered around Igor Stravinsky's scoring of five Russian folk pieces done for weddings (the translation of 'Les Noces'). The selection is interesting for so many reasons, not the least of which is the similarity of this material to the great 'The Rites of Spring' as well as a really superior realization of the great Russian tradition in choral performances.
I have heard Stravinsky's 'Tres Sacrae Cantiones' done on other recordings and these are much better, and they fit in well with the other material on the disk.
This disk easily passes the single most important test of a CD. Not only do I enjoy listening to it at least once a year, I really look forward to it, much as I look forward to 'Rubber ... Read More:
