A nice sampler. I bought it primarily for "Together, Forever" from Gypsy, though its nice to have the Broadway version of "Send in the Clowns (I believe by Glynis Johns). But it is just a sampler, and fans of Broadway music are probably better served buying the full original cast recordings.
Release Date May 18, 1999
Merman belts the songs out of the ballpark in a way that Midler can't touch and LuPone only nears in 'Rose's Turn.' The additional tracks on this are worth a listen and enhance the perspective, like the included liner notes, of the final production.

The first time I saw Kristin Chenoweth in a movie was the TV "Music Man". Just lately I listened to the "Wicked" soundtrack, and after that, I've been listening to Kristin's CDs whenever I can. This one is a jazzy, Broadway-type CD with fun, engaging songs. She's a different type of singer, and while not everyone might enjoy her voice, I really do. If you like Broadway, jazz, drama, romance, or just fun, catchy songs, this is a CD for you.

When I think of "Peter Pan," Mary Martin is always the Peter I remember. And when I hear the soundtrack, with Mary and Cyril Ritchard, I am drawn back to my childhood in East Liverpool, Ohio. My cousin Bill Smith owned, or managed "Smith & Phillips," which was the premier furniture store in our town. They also sold musical instruments. Charlotte and Bill lived across the street from us, in a house that is still painted blue, with their children, Carolyn (b.1950), Joanne (b. 1952), and Martha (b. 1954). When NBC announced that it was going to broadcast "Peter Pan" in COLOR, my cousin Bill was inspired. He sent invitations to all the children on the street to see the production IN COLOR at his house. Even though Charlotte and Bill had ... Read More:

Placido Domingo is a great man...I love his music and will always continue to listen to him...he is so relaxing for me to hear...
I loved this CD with John Denver singing my favorite "Perhaps Love"
It is a keeper for sure...

This C-D contains remastered music from many of the
best musicals I remember from my youth. The only
thing I miss is the video because at times there is
only the sound of tapdancing.
I enjoy singing along with the music while driving
my car. Just as good as singing in the shower!

Of all the Broadway versions, this mix of traditional arrangements with a contemporary flair for staging is truly the one to collect if you you can only buy one. Bernadette Peters shines in My Turn. It is performed with the believable factor that Merman lacked.

This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.

Is this the same musical as the Ethel Merman Original Broadway Cast Recording? Angela Lansbury and company take Gypsy to a whole 'nother level... Everything about this London Cast Recording is 1000 times better than the original. The orchestration, the singing, the acting and the sound quality. All of the performances are confident. Angela Lansbury has the ability to navigate through material that requires both subtlety and volume. Barrie Ingham can actually sing where Jack Klugman clearly cannot. The orchestra is bold and brassy and wonderfully loud and energetic. The tempo of every song, including the overture, is faster. The Orignal Broadway orchestra sounds timid and restrained in comparison, perhaps not wanting to over-shadow Ethel Merman and her ego. Perhaps ... Read More:

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes.
As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET
PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN...
But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's
"Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...
