This CD brought me back to my "skating rink" days. I absolutely love listening to this while I am working it is very relaxing. This genra of music...I believe I'm going to keep adding to my collection.

Revelation

I believe one must listen to a CD at least five times before passing judgment on it. After hearing "Revelation" for a few weeks now, I've come to this conclusion- the first half of it pays tribute to Journey's past, while the back half promotes its new singer and style in a very positive way.

For example, the kickoff song "Never Walk Away" sounds similar to "Be Good To Yourself." "Like A Sunshower" sounds as if it belonged on "Departure." "Change for the Better" would have fit in nicely on the "Escape" album, and "Faith in the Heartland" seems like a "Frontiers" track. They all contain that classic Journey style with Perry-like substance.

Journey

Growing up in the Bay Area in the 70's, like other reviewers, I was familiar with Journey's older material from the get-go, and because of that, I have never embraced their later material. It just sounds too bubble-gum. I never saw them in concert, but their stuff was played all over the place (parties, etc.).

I have all three of their early stuff on LPs and CDs, and one of my favorite things to do is play them for people who have never heard them before.

You play the CD, and they always say they've never heard it before, but they like it!

What I don't understand is why this stuff never gets any airplay on so-called "classic rock" stations. I'm sure that listeners wouldn't mind.

The Essential Journey

so I ordered this 2 disc set and by all account it is very good classic and not so classic Journey. Here's my 1 and only major beef. Is it me or is disk 1 simply a copy of greatest hits? Now disk 2 I am very impressed with. The mixture is simply outstanding. And I am looking for someone who might have information on whether or not there are any other Journey DVD's out there. I have purchased the live in Houston, and the greatest hits sets. Extremely happy with both, but would like to find 1. more concert footage and 2. possibly a dvd set of more of their videos. Escape

For many Journey's Escape album sums up the 1980's. The first album that featured Johnathan Cain on keyboards, and in my opinion Steve Perry's peak as a vocalist. The last of Journey's 1970's sound left with Gregg Rolie (Journey's original keyboardist, who is exceptional in his own right), and Escape is an album that for all intensive purposes should be considered a classic. From the rockers "Don't Stop Believin" and "Stone In Love" to the ballad "Open Arms;" this CD has enough power, emotion, and exceptional song writing that it could be considered a greatest hits on it's own merit. Infinity

The first time I heard Journey's Infinity, I knew it would be one of my favorites. Now, 30 years later, it is still one of my favorites. I was glad to find it available in CD form. There's just something I can't define about the music on this CD that lifts my spirit every time I listen to it.

Frontiers

Just came across with the remastered "Frontiers," and boy am I impressed. It sounds so much crisper, clearer are stonger here. And the two unreleased songs Liberty and Only Solutions are just hidden gems, plus you've got two more extras: Only the Young and Ask the Lonely in the same package! Are you kiddin' me!

Personally, I've favored Frontiers over fan favorite Escape, but haven't listened to the cd for a long time. Can't stop listening to the remastered version.

DEPARTURE, Journey's third album with Steve Perry on vocals, keeps the ball rolling in the right direction. It opens with a hot rocker, "Any Way You Want It", slacks off for a few songs, and then picks up the pace with "Precious Time" and never gives up, especially on "Where Were You." The fact that past and present Journey members advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, as well as increased funding for law enforcement, makes DEPARTURE an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

Journey - Greatest Hits

I too, was not a big Journey fan during the times they dominated the charts. However, as one other put it, they were enscribed into my memory during these times and have now become a cherished part of my memories. It seemed that no matter where you were, there was a Journey song playing on the radio at some point. I have fully come to appreciate their contribution to our culture and salute their music for standing the test of time and lived on to become timeless classics. Their songs still live on today at teen parties when it comes time to slow dance. This generation is starved for smoothing music in the mind jarring rap laced musical culture they exist in today. It's good to hear the time honored classics.
