Some night long ago, I was watching television and the commercial for this cd came on - Groban was singing "Oceano" throughout and, simple as that, I was addicted. Though filled with songs that are in Italian, French, and some other languages I can't reasonably understand the lyrics in given my history with language classes, I love the cd.
Any fan of Groban's will love this CD, and songs like "Remember when it Rained" will draw in a new round of fans.

I have several of Mr Bells CD's and enjoy all of them. This is the best CD I own. The music is very relaxing and the sound of the strad is awesome. We listen to it nightly (kids) as a bedtime routine and I never tire of it. You would not regret this purchase.

Voice of the Violin

After I bought the Ladies in Lavender I had to buy Johuas Bell music.
I heard him play the Brahms violinconcert april 2003 and became a fan.
One period in my life I almost hated violin music maybe because I was
playing the piano with my brother violin. Later I heard the Busch quartet
play , and later I heard Isac Stern and Menuhin play in concerts.
The music Johua plays in wonderful and he plays beutifully.

I wasn't expecting to like this very much. Although I really enjoy classical music, when it comes to bluegrass or country type of stuff, I don't look for virtuso playing or musical subtlety, but more for a more superficial, foot-stomping good time. This album doesn't really fit either category, but it has it's own great flavor. Mostly, it's due to Edgar Meyers, I guess. He composed it mostly & he does things on the bass that I never heard the like of before. Of course the other musicians add a lot-it's not just a showcase for Joshua Bell, as I was expecting it to be; Sam Bush & Mike Marshall both add their unique genius to bear. It has it's good foot-stomping pieces (Death by Triple Fiddle!) but also has some really good nearly classical pieces. ... Read More:

Red Violin Concerto

Forty years passed between the composition of Corigliano's "Sonata for violin and Piano" (1963) and the Red Violin Concerto premiere in 2003. The two works are very different in scope and scale, but to my ears they have a lot in common. I don't guarantee that I could recognize a previously unheard piece of music instantly as Corigliano's, but I'd be willing to try. In his notes for this CD, Corigliano says: the sonata is "for the most part a tonal work, although it incorporates non-tonal and poly-tonal sections within it, as well as other 20th-century harmonic, rhythmic and construction techniques.
