One of the CD's I love to listen to over and over again. One song in particular is so steamy hot that I feel like taking a cold shower after I listen to it. Another song makes me long for a quiet romantic evening alone with the perfect man.

I have treasured this album since it was first released. It captures Joni Mitchell's passionate vision as an artist. I appreciate the clarity of music, lyrics, and intention.

Court and Spark not only ranks among my three favorite Joni Mitchell albums (the other two being Blue and Hejira), it is arguably Joni Mitchell's best album. Certainly it has been her most commercially successful. Its 1974 release marked a radical departure for Mitchell, infusing her definitive folk-rock sound with elements of pop without any compromises. In many ways, Court and Spark is Mitchell's watershed album, with a perfect arrangement of meticulously-crafted pop songs and Mitchell classics ("Help Me," "Free Man In Paris," and "Raised On Robbery"). Her hit single "Help Me" became Mitchell's first and only Top 10 single. The album features an impressive list of backing musicians: Tom Scott on woodwinds and reeds; Joe Sample on electric piano; ... Read More:

The 1960s had their share of sad and wistful hits, and Joni Mitchell was behind more than a few. "Both Sides Now" and "The Circle Game" were coffehouse favorites well into the 70s, when folk rock was fading and mindless disco was taking over the AM and FM airwaves. But even in the post-modern world of the early 21st century, Joni's sweet, sad sounds still satisfy. "Hits," a compendium of Joni's most popular music, gives us the exquisitly-produced and syncopated big hits like "Help Me" and "Free Man in Paris" but a few lesser-known work as well. "Hits" covers the peak of Joni's career and stays firmly on the pavement, but even the casual listener will appreciate the strength of her melodies, the complexity of her arrangements and the bittersweet soulfulness of ... I have always loved and admired Joni Mitchell's music, her poetry and the depth of her lyrics. She is an artist who has consistently grown and changed throughout her career, always becoming stronger and more interesting, following the influences of jazz greats, while always maintaining her own unique qualities. Hejira is my new favorite album of hers, ordered while I was looking for a few of my other favorites which I only have in vinyl. I would highly recommend it both for the music and the poetry, which is wonderful.Hejira

I recently viewed the American Masters documentary on Joni Mitchell during a time when I had been re-reading Norman Mailer's Marilyn- his take on the life of the legendary screen star Marilyn Monroe. And although there is no obvious connection between the lives or the talents of the two women there is a tale of two generations hidden here. Marilyn represented for my parent's generation, the generation that survived the Great Depression and fought World War II, the epitome of blond glamour, sex and talent. To my more `sedate' generation blond-haired Joni represented the introspective, searching, quiet beauty that we sought to represent our longings for understanding in a seemingly baffling world that we had not made. As this documentary and Mailer's book point out however they ... Read More:

This is Joni Mitchell's second album, a harbinger of things to come, showcasing her wide range despite the economy of words and lyrics. Most people are familiar with "Both Sides Now," or more accurately Judy Collins rendition of this classic song. Joni Mitchell's version is more haunting and emotional, displaying the sheer joy of her talent. The lyrics are evocative of the 60s folk-rock tradition, while hinting at Joni's diverse style on display more completely on later albums.
The true test of any artist is Auto-durability (essentially, how long one keeps it in the CD Player in the car). This is one album that resides in my car for every long periods of time, particularly in Spring and Fall seasons. My favorite cuts include Tin Angel, The Gallery and Songs to Aging ... Read More:

She truly does a beautiful job singing Enya's "May it Be" from LOTR. Another favorite of mine on this album is "Dell'Amore Non Si Sa", a duet with Andrea Bocelli. Need I say more? You'll enjoy this album.

I heard this as a cassette in the summer of 1976 while on a 2 1/2 month canoe trip thru Northern Minnesota--fell in love with the music first, then the lyrics...went out & found the LP..played it to pieces and just recently replaced my CD as a b-day gift for myself. Joni Mitchell has soul and wisdom and passion in every strum and plunk of the guitar....ever song tells a story!
