Jo Stafford's album, "GI Joe" brings you back to an American past filled with all the dreams and ideals that created and sustained the "geatest generation". You absorb the era, this wonderful heritage, in the beauty and richness of her voice, presentation and in all the heart she brings to such war songs as "I'll Be Seeing You", "I Left My Heart At the Stagedoor Canteen", "I'll Walk Alone", "I Don't Want To Walk Without You" and in all the selections. This voice and this era reflects the America we like to think we really are. It seems a bit strange that she died at 93 just a week or so after I ordered the album. No one sang these songs like Jo Stafford; what a voice, what an era.

The cd's I ordered were so poorly packaged by the seller that all of the plastic cases were smashed to pieces upon arrival. Everything had to be returned for a refund -- which I trust I will receive soon. I still do not own the music that I tried to buy. This could have been a successful transaction if the seller had simply wrapped the cd's in bubble-wrap.

Yes Indeed

I was too young to appreciate Jo Stafford's music or to know much about her, but I always loved the song "I'll Be Seeing You" without knowing who had sung the version that I loved. In recently searching all of the versions on iTunes, I learned that it was Joe Stafford's version that I had remembered and it was the best by far. That made me begin searching for other songs by her and I ordered this album. It is the best album set I have ever owned, because out of 100 songs, there are very few that I do not appreciate - primarily up tempo numbers - with the far majority being outstandingly beautiful songs. The Old Rugged Cross

I have been wondering if Amazon would have a CD of Jo Stafford. I loved her as a little girl and I am enjoying her more and more each day. I enjoyed these religious pieces and I do enjoy listening to them in my car. I would highly recommend this CD.

Jo Stafford has a style and voice that should make her equivalent to Barbra Streisand, Doris Day, etc. in the music world. Yet, appreciation of her singing has been on a back-burner. She should be out front, loved for the artistic talent she has. "Jo Stafford: Greatest Hits" is a good cd that shows this remarkable singer at her very best.

Joyful Season

This is one of the two Jo Stafford Christmas collections that are available on CD, the other being "Happy Holidays - I Love The Winter Weather," which contains some very good earlier recordings. Both CDs are well worth purchasing. As on the earlier disc, the song selection and performances here are excellent all around.

Jo has a beautiful voice, and as the title of this album says, you get multiple, overdubbed voices from her, so it's more of a good thing. If I had to compare this album to someone else's music (not that Jo needs to be compared to anyone else for a recommendation), I'd say that this is what Les Paul and Mary Ford might have done if they had recorded an entire album of holiday favorites. Ballad of the Blues

The liner notes to this CD seem to promise "early stereo recording techniques." Naturally, since I love Jo Stafford (in all of her manifestations), I was intrigued. Now I read that this lovely and yet mono remastering of this music for CD might have been a mistake, or, the compilers and producers just liked the mono better. Then it occurred to me that several of the young Dusty Springfield's albums had been mastered in true stereo, yet never released that way, only in mono and "simulated" stereo.

The topper comes with the reviewer who remembers his LP as being in glorious, true stereo. He did not mention that, hey, the INTERVIEW section is in stereo! Oh, well...
