I could just kick myself. I've had this CD for nearly seven months and I'm just now getting around to listening to it. I haven't been feeling Jill Scott since her debut CD so I wasn't really expecting much-but WOW was I wrong. From the moment I hit play, I was grooving. Welcome back, Jill. You put your foot into this. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time and this CD remains on REPEAT. If you haven't bought or listen to this, you're definitely missing out. GREAT MUSIC. BUY THIS!!!!

I loved Jill's debut CD, and it's been a long time between buying CDs of hers for me. This was the next one, and while it's very good - several tracks stand out, with "Golden" and "Can't Explain" being my two favorites - it doesn't measure up to the debut at all. That's not entirely a bad thing - her debut CD was so good, it just about set an impossibly high bar. It says more about how good that CD is than anything about this one.

So if there's any kind of "buyer beware" with this, it's just to rein in the expectations a bit if you have her debut CD and enjoyed it like I did. "Who Is Jill Scott?" is still the gold standard.

I love Jill Scott. She has one of the best voices around. This cd starts off promising but then bogs down quickly. It's not her but her choice of material/collaborators. After the third song where the hip hip/rapper guy takes the lead and she is left to support with breezy, breathy vocals, I wanted to scream. She is the talent here and she needs to be the focal point.

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes.
As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET
PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN...
But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's
"Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...

she's on fire....from the beginning that starts w/Who is Jill Scott, to the Experience Jill Scott 826+, the classic Beautifully Human (by the way if anyone knows where the remix to Cross My Mind off of Beautifully Human can be found, please let a sista know) to Collaborations and now the noir comeback - The Real Thing.... The Real Thing reminds me alot of Who is Jill Scott as far as it's darkness....i love it, i cry to it('my love'), relax to it('only u, insomnia) i think as i listen to it(how it make u feel).... she is gifted w/knowing how to tap into the infinite possibilities that music and lyrics have to offer...and she delivers.
