I love Jewel. Always have. However, I don't find it necessary that she pick up on the cheesier aspects of country to create a new gimmick for herself. She's fine the way she is. I like the CD still, but I don't feel like adding a generic twang to your folk sound makes you a genuine country artist.
Release Date February 28, 1995
The artist Jewel is really a country- pop crossover, sent in several years after its actual 19994 release to clean up MTV and be the main American-Euro rock star. Her material here is incredibly simple, not even basic folk music. A following release This Way just defined country, but this here is the major label debut. I like it, not love it, This Way is much better, it just defined country.

This is a collection of spiritual soft pop music. Jewel did it again with "Hands" and "Down So Long." Jewel can sing in s little girls voice and in a baritone/tenor voice as well which helps make her so talented. If you like pop music and religious references, then this album is for you.

This easily rivals her best music. She's having her playful laugh at herself fun again and it shows. See her live if you have the chance, best show I have seen ever! Very very few of today's ""stars"" can stand alone on stage with just a guitar for 90 minutes and capture an audience. I thought JEWEL was another pop star like all the whiners created by Hollywood and the "industry". Then when home from college my daughter left a Jewel album "this way" on my stereo. Imagine my surprise when I popped in the disk and this girl had real talent. She can flat out sing in several styles and with at least 4 different voices. The only person I know of almost this talented is Jeff Tweedy. Her lyrics and arrangements are all fresh and fun. I highly recommend this ... Read More:

I put this on infinite repeat whilst doing housework. My wife came home and asked why I was playing country music.
That's right, Jewel's gone back to her folk roots (not country) with this one, leaving me wanting. I picked it up for "Standing Still" and found a few other tracks that were more pop-ish, but if you're into neo-folk, this is the one for you.

Yes, this one even pushed the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack out of number 1. It's a wonderful collection. My favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night" and I have a very hard time finding good versions of it. This one is beautiful. The only downside is that she only performs one verse. I would have loved to hear the entire hymn, even if it would have been 10 minutes long! But it's still great.

I've been a fan of Jewel's for many years now, I'm absolutely loving her latest album "Perfectly Clear" - it's since writing a review for it and reading reviews for it and her other albums that I thought I'll have to write one for her "0304" album.
I've had the album since the week it was released and I've thoroughly enjoyed it, yeah the front cover is quite 80's and the disc is bright pink, which is different to all her albums, but Jewel said she wanted to make a Pop album and that is what she did, Avril Lavigne has been criticised for the same thing over her latest album. Why is it that if the music is Pop then automatically it must be a "sell-out"? Two things that Jewel that Jewel is on a high level with is her vocals and her songwriting, and ... Read More:

This is an outstanding recording of a live Boston concert featuring some of music's most notable stars who've generously donated the proceeds of this CD to the homeless. We've got the Usual Suspects, folks like Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger (Hobo's Lullaby) to notable bluesman Keb Mo (Baby, Don't Let me Go Homeless), jazz singer Madeline Peyroux (I Think It's Going to Rain Today), and African womens ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock (Stranger Blues).
"Give US Your Poor" is a generational collection which will have something to appeal to just about everyone in the family. The engineering is above par for a live collection--you don't get a lot of audience feedback which can just sound like static after a while. The cause is definitely worthy. ... Read More:

I was very disappointed with this, but gave it 3 stars because it's probably my fault for not listening to the samples or reading the description closely enough. I don't know what I was expecting when I got this, but am a Jewel fan and thought it was just different versions of her "Serve the Ego" single. It is, but they're dance club mixes, and I can't see why anyone would enjoy listening to this CD unless they're on the dancefloor or at a club. The tracks are all repetitive and pretty much all sound the same to me. All drum beats with her lyrics every couple of minutes.
I don't want to fault the CD since I'm not a fan of dance mixes and can't judge whether this is a good one or not since I don't know what constitutes a "good" dance mix, but buyer beware, ... Read More:

First off, let me say that I loved the movie. It was really good! The first song on the cd is Jewel's "Quest for love" this song is excellent! Then it goes down hill. I don't like Snoop Dogg's "Go girl" or Elijah's "It's a beautiful day". Luckily it goes back up hill with excellent score! Overall this cd is an 8/10! Really worth picking up a copy!
