This lady has one great voice. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility.

I have been the proud owner of this dual CD since 1994, when my first car had only a tape deck and I had to use one of those goofy converters with my diskman to listen to CDs. I think I wore the poor thing out. I also own the original rock opera written and performed by The Who, but it doesn't get the playtime that the Cast Album does. Why not? Because the women in this recording are phenomenal! I love speeding down the road screaming/singing "Acid Queen".

I will have to be honest though... as a play, Tommy is a bit lacking. You have to admit that the plot is a bit strange and often the character's actions leave the viewer scratching their head. I watched the touring cast in the late 90's and still have my piece of the mirror that ... Read More:

Copland conducts Copland

.....alone makes this cd worth the price. This may say more about me than I like, but I own several versions of Appalachian Spring. It was worth adding one more to the collection just so I could get my hands on Henry Fonda's reading of the Lincoln Portrait. I've listened to almost all of them but this one best captures Lincoln's decency and moral stature. Fonda reads it with great emotion and warmth. When you really want to understand the best of American values this is the place to start.

I stumbled across this guy by accident, and had I known he was responsible for "Escape" (The Pina Colada Song) I would have written him off immediately. But his body of songwriting is a very different story. "Widescreen", "Escape-The Best of Rupert Holmes" and "Pursuit of Happiness" are filled with melodic, entertaining, thought provoking songs.

He is essentially a lost artist from that era. Instrumentation is often complex, the lyrics tell stories and, god forbid, challenge you to think about your life.

Great songwriting is a lost art in the era of hip hop and rap. If you like Burt Bacharach, Barry Manilow (I know what you're thinking but check out "Here At The Mayflower"), Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonalds best work, you should like "Widescreen". ... Read More:
