This is a great cd, lots of wonderful blues from a rare talent. If you get a chance to see her live, go. She was "2006 Female Comtemporary Blues Artist of the Year" for a good reason.

I stumbled upon Janiva's music when Alligator records sent me the opportunity to buy a autographed copy of a about to be released CD by Janiva Magness called "what love will do". I read some reviews and thought I'll check her out.
When I placed her CD on after arrival I almost fell out of my chair.
I was a resident of The French Quarter of New Orleans for years and have heard great female Blues singers, Etta James is the best of this generation I had thought, my all time favorite,
Now Janiva Magness stands next to Etta, she is a good, as inspirational,great to listen to, witty and just one fine Blues Artist
I now own every one of Janiva's CD's and am waiting anxiously for her next release.

I have written a review about Janiva Magness concerning one of her other CD's.
Janiva is incredible,
She is the Etta James of today.
Buy her music it's a win, win enjoyable music trip!!,
She and Etta are the best current female blues artists of today.
I bought all of her CD's after hearing just her first one she is so excellent.
When her CD' comes kick back and enjoy, and buy more than one while you are at it.
You will be buying more anyway after you listen to any single one of hers you purchase, So save the effort and buy others of hers do it now!!!!

My Bad Luck Soul

One could never tire of hearing Ms. Magness' fabulous voice! I was lucky enough to meet her last night before a performance at the Doll Hut in Anaheim, CA. That was not only the best show I've been to (the place is the size of a 2 car garage) but the best band I've seen live. This album, and her others, should be in everyone's collection. Ms. Magness is one of the great blues artists of all time!

Use What You Got

I saw Janiva in a club in Nashville. She had replaced the originally booked act for that night. I was so impressed with her vocals & the tightness of her band, that I bought this cd when I returned home. I'm not going to write a big speech about why she's great, I'll just say she is. She seems to be overshadowed by other blues singers like Bonnie Raitt, but she's worth a listen. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to get to the good stuff.

It Takes One to Know One

As a rule I usually listen to a CD before I buy.Because this was recorded in 1997 there were no samples to be found. I read the above review and really got suckered in. The first tune really JUMPS and thats the end of that.I'm wondering if that guy was listening to the same CD.I even skipped thru the last 4 tracks hoping to find one more jump tune,not to be found. With Junior Watson & Kid Ramos on this disk it should have smoked from start to finish.I was ready for a real jumping good time and man what a let down.(Lesson learnt,alway listen before you buy, then read the reviews.)OK, with that said, why 4 star?
