The Hard Way

The music is outstanding. The analog sound on the vinyl has a wonderful warm sound as only analog can have. The only surprise was that it doesn't seem to be stereo. If that is indeed the case it should be noted on the record.

i just had the pleasure of seeing James Hunter open for Chris Isaak in BPT CT __ OMG !! Phenomenal~~ amazing get up & dance music ~~

style class comedy & songs & wow ~ i had never before heard of james until tonite & now i am going to see about getting the rest of his albums & keeping a close eye on his touring scheduale in USA & UK !!

Rock on James you have made an impact on the music scene in USA ~

So glad I bought this album, I have no idea how I found it. I think it was a suggestion by Amazon based on another purchase. Just love his voice, his band and the type of songs - old 50's & 60's soul.

I bought this CD for the title song. It is the same as in the movie "Rio Bravo" (my husband's favorite movie which we watch all the time). There is a strange intro by John Wayne but doesn't take away from the song, which seems to be cut off at the end just a few seconds too soon. I like several other selections, including the theme from "The Searchers". The others are OK with some that are strange. Why have Lorne Greene half/talk-half/sing the "Bonanza" theme? Just give me the real thing. The CD has songs you wouldn't find just anywhere and I like that. I really wanted the Dean Martin/Ricky Nelson title song and the CD was worth it to me.

Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays, led by James Hunter (of People Gonna Talkfame), came onto the scene in the mid-1980s and was together for only a brief time before disbanding. A pity, since their strong, polished homage to blues, early rock, and soul really shines on Cry Wilf! from 1986. Hunter plays blues harp, guitar, and sings, while guitarist Dot and bassist Tony Hilton round out the crew.

Kick It Around

Simply put, James Hunter has soul. This is wonderful Soul music for the 21st century, though it certainly sounds an awful lot like Sam Cooke's music from the 1960s, which is definitely not a bad thing at all! For me, the highlight of this disc is "Mollena", which is simply beautiful. Hunter's newest album doesn't do it for me like this release and "People Gonna Talk" do, so I recommend picking up "People Gonna Talk" first, since it is sold at a cheap price on Amazon.com and is an excellent record. If you highly enjoy that disc, you should absolutely purchase this one as well, as it is every bit as good as "People Gonna Talk", though the price is a bit high. I bought this on a whim, as I like male choral groups. Am I ever glad I bought it! The music is soaring, and the voices are magnificent. I don't know all of the technical stuff about recording, etc.--I just know I love this collection!

The Secret Garden

This is not the one I had hoped to get. I had a Secret Garden cassette years ago that I have misplaced and was hoping this was it. It was not.
So...I ordered another one (different cover) and it was worse!! No vocals at all. I give up.
