Turn on the Bright Lights

The best metaphors to describe this album is a moire pattern. Moire occurs when two sets of parallel lines intersect, like when you cross two screen doors or videotape a CRT television. The result is a bulging curve that is drawn from the parallel lines. This is Interpol's music. The guitar parts taken individually are pretty simple and repetitive, but they intersect and play off of each other to create bounding moire patterns that are both grounded yet defying gravity. The drum and bass undercurrents are both stiff and lucid at the same time. The amazing thing is that none of it feels cold, clinical, or planned; even though the music itself is cool, it's never cold. Antics

Even if you could consciously hear them trying to avoid it, elements of the dreaded sophomore slump do dig their hooks into Antics. While some of the beautiful, well produced interplay Interpol displayed so readily on their powerful debut is present, many songs as a whole just don't have that memorable quality so easily noticeable on TOYBL. Still, there is much payoff, as nailing indie-anthemic choruses continue to remain a focal point.

this is probably one of my top fav albums. it's upbeat, but a tad morose. great lyrics, great rhythem. there is not a single song that i ever fastforward passed because i don't like it, and several that i can't help but to put on repeat, such as C'mere. like it better than the first. awesome!

Of all of Interpol's works, I think that the song PDA is what makes them as great as they are. The guitar/keyboard at the end of that song has that feeling that makes it a classic. This song speaks to the indi-rock fans, the way music is meant to.
