One of the CD's I love to listen to over and over again. One song in particular is so steamy hot that I feel like taking a cold shower after I listen to it. Another song makes me long for a quiet romantic evening alone with the perfect man.

This 2004 remaster is the definitive verson of NILSSON SCHMILSSON, Harry Nilsson's definitive album. In addition to the original album, which includes affecting balladry (a cover of Badfinger's "Without You"), loopy humor (the tropically-flavored "Coconut"), and straight-out rock & roll ("Jump Into The Fire"), this CD contains six bonus cuts which actually add to the worthiness of the album. The homey feel of this album, unique in an era known for bombast, makes NILSSON SCHMILSSON the place to start your Harry Nilsson collection.

In 1971, (i was 12) I asked my mom and dad if I could stay up and watch this cartoon on the ABC movie of the week. They read about in their TV Guide and agreed quickly.
Listening to Dustin Hoffman narrate this story of a round headed boy named Obllo living in the land of Point, I was amazed. This little cartoon had a great story and wonderful music which captured my attention.
For weeks after I saw this TV movie, I hummed and sung most of the score. I assumed my mom, dad and younger brother were sick of hearing my voice singing "Me and My Arrow". So a few weeks after I saw the movie, I got an LP of this film (The same one as this CD). Under Harry Nilsson's narration, the soundtrack was just as wonderful as the TV movie ... Read More:

I was aware of Harry Nilsson from the beginning of his career. He was way ahead of the curve and somewhat misunderstood and underappreciated in his time.
Rod Stewart, especially, has mined what we call the "Great American Songbook" in 4 albums; Barry Manilow and other have done that in recent years, too... rediscover these songwriters who toiled in the 20s, 30 & 40s.
Well, Nilsson was the first of the rock n roll era musicians to record an album of standards. When it first came out, it was a complete departure from his previous work, and as such, was not particularly well received at the time. Critics liked it and it was well reviewed, but it did not sell all that well.
When I found out it was re-released ... Read More:

I've always been a fan of Nilsson since I first heard "Everybody's Talking" back in '69 and then I read that The Beatles were his biggest fans. Nilsson was a singer's singer, he could sing so well and had a great voice range. He also had a quirky sense of humor. This CD captures all his finest works in one CD. There are a couple of songs from the Nillson Shmeilsson CD that aren't here that I also enjoyed, but these 20 songs are all great. Along with Eveybody's Talkin', these feature the best songs off all his albums, My favorites: Everybody's Talkin', Me and My Arrow, Coconut, The Moonbeam Song, My Old Desk, Cuddly Toy etc. Actually there isn't a bad cut on this CD. If you want the cream of Nilsson, this is the one to own. The sound is also superb.

To me listening to Harry Nilsson, is like listening to an old friend and a warm fuzzy blanket that makes you feel warm inside, except for the kiss off song: You're Breakin My Heart which is a prickly pair song, which makes the Ballad Of John And Yoko seem tame in comparison with free use of F-word in it. This collection of songs is excellent a must have in any rock collection. I was pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the sound of recording was, I have no idea what that guy was talking about it being ok, it was incredible. There no real words to put into except I would say this compilation of Harry Nilsson songs hooks you and takes you a journey that after it's over you want to take it again. Wonderfully crafted songs that tell a story in each one. I ... Read More:

Son of Schmilsson has been one of my all-time favorites since I was just a kid. I've purchased this album in vinyl, then 8-track, then cassette, and just recently, this newly-released CD with the extra tracks. His incredible range is truly displayed in these odd-ball tunes, and I still cannot listen to this music without smiling. I have most of his other recordings but, compared to this album, they rarely get played. I just keep coming back to these wonderfully-written songs that I can enjoy over and over again. Son of Schmilsson is true genius!

I first heard of Nilsson from a song he did with John Lennon on Lennon's album Walls and Bridges. I later found out that the hypnotizing backing vocals on Ringo Starr's cover of "You're Sixteen" were also Nilsson's. So when I found out that Nilsson was declared the Beatles favorite singer I realized I had to check him out. This album is simply sensational all the songs show a man who loves to sing and who can sing with the best of them. Pandemonium Shadow show has the powerful and humorous "Ten little Indians" the beautiful and heartwrenching "1941", the wry and catchy "cuddly toy", the gorgeous "sleep late my lady friend" the simply genius "without Her" and the clever Beatles tributes "You Can't Do That" and "She's leaving home". These tracks are all of ... Read More:
In 2006, after painstakingly purchasing and comparing all the Nilsson domestic, European and Japanese CD versions, I posted a review on the best-audio edition of each title. That was split between four UK, one domestic and six Japan CD's, and this CD was one of those titles.
However, time and technology have marched on. In Q307, the entire Nilsson pre-1978 catalog (except "The Son Of Dracula", announced but subsequently canceled), were remastered anew and released in mini-sleeve format by BMG Japan.
So, what was slightly confusing before, with all the different international and domestic versions, has now been simply resolved: In terms of the best audio available, the fifteen new BMG remasters are head-and-shoulders superior to any pre ... Read More:
