Fortune's Favour

The celtic rock of Great Big Sea, and intense energy they inspired, seems to have drifted away in this new chapter of their career. How very disappointing for me, a big fan. Fortune's Favor is more Irish Folk than Celtic Rock. It is not bad, but not what a previous Great Big Sea fan like me enjoys most.

The best part about this live album is the Bonus DVD that comes with it. It includes 4 bonus videos, including Lukey - which was done w/ the Chieftains. It was that video on YouTube that got me started loving Great Big Sea, and it's on this DVD. Beyond that, it's a fantastic cross-section of their best songs, along with some that aren't as well known. These guys are so much fun to watch and listen to; and this album/DVD is a great way to do it.

This is a band I have newly discovered and boy am I glad I did. If you like witty folk music with an irish/scottish twist, then they are for you. The tongue in check songs make me smile while I am driving to work.

Great Big Dvd & CD (W/Dvd)

My wife and I first saw this group perform in Niagara Falls at a New Years bash and enjoyed them very much. The dvd/cd has wonderful toe tapping music and the dvd adds a personal touch. Young and old in our family enjoyed it very much and our youngest grand daughter was the belle of the ball dancing for hours. Being of Newfoundland ancestry it brought us closer to our heritage.

Something Beautiful

This is, hands down, my favorite Great Big Sea album. As a long-time fan who has always preferred their original songs to their traditional ones, this album just hits the spot. It's incredibly upbeat, fun to sing along to, and I never get sick of it. There are one or two tracks that I could do without ("John Barbour" and "Helmethead"), that's just a question of personal taste. On the whole, I think that this album is very strong. I've used it to introduce a number of my friends to Great Big Sea, and have had a lot of success. I recommend it highly

This disc was my 1st introduction to Great Big Sea. I LOVED IT !!!
After virturally wearing this disc out I went to a GBS concert in Toronto and was blown away. "Road Rage" catches a goodly sum of the fun and energy of the band and crowd interaction... but seeing them LIVE is just incredible! If you can't see GBS in concert, put in "Road Rage" dance a lil' jig and sing yourself silly! If you like a lil' Irish flavor in your musice, this is a must have. Great Big Sea... just great!
