This George Thorogood collection is a great party CD, regardless of whether you drink like a fish or are totally clean and sober (as I am). While Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter could play rings around him, George Thorogood created an intense modern blues style which I hope will influence others. If you saw the 1984 TV movie WHY ME? (based on a true story), in which the lead character's face is virtually destroyed in a car accident caused by a drunk driver, you might wish to skip the overt drinking songs on this CD and just listen to stuff such as "Gear Jammer", "Move It On Over", and "Who Do You Love?", but even if you don't agree with the lyrics of the alcohol songs, you can still enjoy the guitar playing and the grooves of this whole ... Has it been 25 years already? Damn! Despite several albums prior to this one, Bad to the Bone is the one that put Thorogood and company on the map. It was an unlikely success too because the group really defied what was hot at the time. No one else was delivering dirty bar band blues like Thorogood. No one else was crafting two and three chord progressions that made you want to pound down the beers and fight either. The album's title track is legendary, but the album is so much more than that.
"Back to Wentzille" is classic up-beat blues, while "Blue Highway" is the best of the slow jams. Each track contains the heart and soul of the blues while telling a mini-story in-between. For this release, the group includes re-recorded versions ... Read More:

Along with his self-titled debut album, George Thorogood's second one, MOVE IT ON OVER, helped to bring rock & roll back to its roots. "Move It On Over" and "Who Do You Love?" got all the airplay on rock radio, but even better was a cover of Chuck Berry's "It Wasn't Me", which really rocked harder than anything this side of Ted Nugent. If you buy this album and the first one, you're off to a good start at getting to know George Thorogood.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers' self-titled debut album is also his best ever. What a lot of people who are against alcohol don't realize is that the drinking songs are just a facade for the fact that Thorogood introduced the majority of the rock audience to the music's blues roots. The best songs on this album are "Madison Blues and "Ride On Josephine", the latter of which is a Bo Diddley cover. Being that I don't drink, I feel that the aforementioned songs will be remembered long after "I Drink Alone" and "(If You Don't Start Drinkin') I'm Gonna Leave" have faded out of memory. This album is the first place to discover George Thorogood and his great, rootsy band.

George doesn't put out new material often these days, but he really hit all the right notes on this one. It probably won't go down as being as classic as albums with Gear Jammer or Bad to the Bone on them, but for a Thorogood fan, there are some really cool grooves going on in this CD. We all know his sound, and he doesn't deviate from what we expect him to do, but that's okay, because what he does- he does best. This is a great CD to put on at a party or just anytime you're feeling good.

i saw george and the destroyers years back when move it on over came out. at that time in interviews george said that he didn't know why they were so popular, all they do is bang the hell out of 3 chords. and bang the hell out of them they do! tight band, powerful vocals, great songs.

I've got to write a review of this album since the reviews here don't do it justice. George Thorogood is the guy who introduced guys my age to classic blues greats like John Lee Hooker (and made us go find the originals). Anyway, this is the first Thorogood album I bought and it's great, maybe not his greatest record, but it's up there. You have instant classics that George penned like "Gear Jammer" and "I Drink Alone." George also (as usual) covers a lot of tunes by some of his favorite artists. "Crawling King Snake" is a John Lee Hooker song, "Dixie Fried" is a scorching rocker from 50s great Carl Perkins, and of course "Memphis/Marie" is a well-known Chuck Berry song. Note also a real rocker called "Go Go Go" that the record label says was also written ... Read More:
