Gavin DeGraw has an amazing voice. I'll start with that. He is incredibly talented, both as a singer and a songwriter. The only reason I give this cd four stars and not five is because it's not super memorable. I listen to a lot of music and whenever I stumble upon this cd, I'm pleasantly suprised. He has an incredible style that puts his breathtaking vocals against dramatic forceful melodies. A good number of his songs have the same relaxing rhythm. Overall this cd is great, I would reccommend buying it if you like anything along the lines of....hmm comparisons are hard, buy it and find out. (Also, I would definitely reccommend this stripped version for the extra couple of bucks)

To be honest, I'm not a fan of pop, but every once in a while someone hits it. Gavin has succeeded in recording an album that is completely sellable and it makes for nice background music... However if you are like me and need music to move you, transform you, and break you, there is one song on this album that stands above the rest, "Overrated". It's the most raw, emotional, volnerable song on the CD and it breaks me the way music should. It refuses to rest in the background and takes over...
The rest of the CD is, well... nice. I'm hoping Gavin can open up a little more in his career, I'm sure if he ever did it would be worth waiting for.

I picked this CD up from Target for about $5 several years ago and it introduced me to several new artists of whom I will probably be a lifelong fan. I have never written an Amazon review despite the fact I have been a customer for 10 years and a Prime member for two. I cannot say enough about this CD and I have made several copies over the years for friends. Let me begin with my favorite track - a live version of Bloc Party's "Banquet". The first words to the song - "This song is about sex." I had never heard of this group when I purchased the CD and I now listen to them everyday and have seen them twice in concert. If you are a Bloc Party fan, you should buy this CD just for this song. Howie Day's "Collide" is great - the regular version is passable but this live version ... Read More:

I simply cannot understand any negative reviews for this album.
Gavin DeGraw has a vocal range and tone of voice that no modern artist can reach. Yes, there are comparisions to John Mayer, Howie Day etc, but for me Gavin is head and shoulders above them.

I don't understand how anyone can be negative to his lyrics - if you listen to the whole album and put the lyrics in context, you will see what a talented songwriter he is.

Yes, Gavin has signed to a record label, but I think he is one of the only artists who still manages to do his own thing without being manufactured and sold in a certain way which is very rare these days. Remember he turned down record deals before eventually signing. To me he sings what he wants to and how he wants to and that ... Read More:
