I like any kind of music, but I especially like to hear tenors sing. I was somewhat disappointed, though, because this seems not to be made in the recording studio but at a concert because some of the songs have clapping at the end. I wish I had read that when I looked it up. I prefer studio recordings. I was very disappointed with the recording of my favorite song of all time "Danny Boy", but all in all the CD is not bad. Most likely when I listen to it several more times it will grow on me like it is already starting to do.

A glorious concert in a historic setting, with all involved in top notch form. Finbar finds a great old Johnny Cash number, Ronan sings a Glocka
Mora to end all, and Anthony Kearns sings murderously difficult versions
of Macushla and The Croppy Boy like an angel. And their Courtin' and Irish
Medleys, and their "Nation Once Again" trios are simply glorious glees.

With the benefit of a grand theme, this is perhaps the best, and best balanced, of all their programs.

The Irish Tenors - Ellis Island

As a child I listened to stories of emigrants who arrived at Ellisland. Leaving homeland, family and friends maybe never to see them again. Sometimes they lost touch with their families fo make it easier for them to settle in this beautiful large country. A lot of songs were written about it. The lyrics came across as haunting and beautiful. You could feel the lonliness of those people some only 14 years. It is a wonderful Tribute to Ellis Island.

What a disappointment that the record quality is so poor. The instruments drown out the singers. Their voices are recorded with slight echos and are far too faint to enjoy the strength of tenors.

Cyrano De Bergerac

Alfano has been tarred unfairly for the work he reluctantly undertook with TURANDOT, which was apparently pithed by Toscanini. As with Mascagni, he was an active fascist, which may have contributed to the sparse performance after World War II of his three recommended works, RISURREZIONE, (LA LEGENDA DI) SAKUNTALA, and CYRANO. I find this recording Germanic and raw. There are only two solosits. Both German singers try hard to sound the French words, but neither sounds French. To my ears, a great deal turns on the SHWA, a Hebrew term (adopted in linguistic usage) meaning "void." In Hebrew it is both zero (the end of a closed syllable) and a minimal sound. It is the latter which is the test of French enunciation: E without a diacritic, as in JE,LE,DEMOISELLE. ... Read More:
