Irish-punk amalgam Flogging Molly march ever onwards into an emerald-tinted punk rock landscape on their fourth studio album, Float. The Los Angeles-based seven-piece have been making utilitarian Celtic rock since 1997 and have sold over a million and a half records in doing so, so it comes as no surprise that with Float, the band is living by the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Much like Gypsy punk counterparts Gogol Bordello, who wear their heritage on their sleeves (and share a record label with the band), the band has remained stuck in their own culture, maintaining virtually the same gimmick since their debut album of Pogues-inspired rock and leading to albums that generally sound the same from one song to another. ... When my son was born, we tried everything to make him stop crying. Everything. He had colic for four months, cried 9 hours a day, and the ONLY thing that would put him to sleep, was this CD. Don't ask me why, it's not the calmest music out there, but from the first few picks and drum beats in "Drunken Lullabies", he would stop crying and fall asleep within the first couple songs.
He's now 18 months old, and adjusting to sleeping in a toddler bed, which is really hard. My husband got all sorts of clever yesterday and popped this CD in his CD player, and guess what? Still works like a charm. He's out cold in under 10 minutes.

My boyfriend had this album in his CD Alarm clock when we first started dating. It went off every morning at 9. I started to curse his name. Then after a couple of times i just started to listen and before i know it i had listened to the whole thing. to this day i think that this is the greatest flogging molly album. followed of course by Drunken Lullaby's.
Flogging Molly has a great balance of traditional and modern sounds that make for an exciting and intriguing listening experience on WITHIN A MILE FROM HOME. The songs run the gamut, from the frantic political rant of "Screaming at The Wailing Wall," to the wistful "Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering," one of the only tunes that lets the listener relax after all the high energy Celtic rock that is the norm for this CD. In between, standouts like "Seven Deadly Sins' with it frenzied playing and clever wordplay and "Factory Girls," with its look back at the life and memories of days when "She hears a chorus of factory girls, Singin' aoin and all, Empty are their pockets, but their voices are filled with song." Jump out at the listener, ... Read More:

Flogging Molly have created a very unigue sound. Part Dropkick Murphys, part traditional Irish music, they have carved a niche for themselves. Though their studio albums are excellent, their live shows are one of a kind. Alive Behind The Green Door is a good starter kit for new fans as well as as must have for longtime fans.

First off,I love this band (LIVE and on record). I wanted to complete my collection so I grabbed this live disc.
While the set list is smoking and the band was definitley "on" the disc has some real issues sound-quality wise.
It falls somewhere between a soundboard copy and a fan recorded bootleg.
But hey, its a "live" live record so grab it anyway, down some creamy pints of stout, crank the volume and decide for yourself...or just catch them live (now thats a real 5 star performance!)
