Smart move by his label not to use N-gga as his moniker here in the states.... it wouldn't fly. I've heard the album but don't own it.... I liked Luna, Te Quiero, Escapate(hot) most. Didn't like Gritarle or Dejala. Album is a decent listen.

This album is more like a mixtape than any of Flex's other efforts. I usually dont like mixtapes. Its impossible to get the best artists to give up quality tracks that you know they need for thier own albums. by this time, dj clue is annoying everybody with the shout outs in the background so thank goodness flex is better than that. other than a few songs mentioned by dmx, jadakiss and faith i found no reason to play this album over again. this prompts me to ask, Can we go back to the tunnel?? That has some of the best representation of 99-00 hip hop anywhere!

The Mix Tape Volume II: 60 Minutes Of Funk

Why Flex calls his albums 60 minutes of funk when they're more like 72 minutes of funk is beyond me. Not that it's a bad thing though, Flex brings the noise on this album. There are plenty of bangers and club rockers on this album. It has a lot more meat to dig into this time around. His first album was good, but there was a severe drop off toward the end of that album. Flex does a great job of blending, scratching, and juggling on Volume 2. Jay Z freestyles, DJ Kool snippets, classic old school rap, it's all there for the taking on this LP.

The first problem I have with this album is the use of 70's funk. I'm as big a fan as anyone of classics like "Flashlight", "Outstanding", and "Rising To The Top", but they stuck out like sore thumbs. ... Read More:

I can't actually believe the other reviewers on this web page when they say this CD is just OK!!! I think it's absolutely brilliant, consisting of an amazing variety of different styles of hip-hop. If you ever get the chance to buy this album, I strongly suggest you do and you won't regret it. Trust me, I'm a hip-hop expert! A great wide range of artists appear on this album such as; DMX, Busta Rhymes, Cam'Ron, Wu-Tang Clan, Keith Murray & Mos Def. There are also some great apperances from old skool artists such as; House of Pain, Naughty By Nature, Busy-Bee, Slick Rick, KRS-One, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr & EPMD. I don't even remember one of these songs on the radio. One of the best hip-hop compilations ever. From Eminem to Dre to Snoop to Beanie to Nas, some of their most original work. An outstanding piece of work.

Funkmaster Flex has had the reputation of laying down some banging beats for hip hop's top stars to freestyle over. But on Vol. 3 there's not enough good beats or good songs to make this album satifying. There are lots of missteps on here, Mariah Carey over Mobb Deep's Shook Ones Pt. 2 beat, Missy Elliot's freestyle over Wu-Tang's Triumph completely ruins the beat, DMX's freestyle ruins the Give up the Goods beat by Mobb Deep. Ice Cube doesn't even drop a verse on the Mack 10 freestyle, he just talks in the beginning of the freestyle. Funkmaster Flex gathered all of these big hip hop stars and didn't milk them for his worth, he also cuts [bad] hip hop and r&b songs together in between. My older brother had this album when I was in high school. I loved this back then and still do. I have always had a copy of this in one form or another. I still play it to this day.
It's really hard to listen to this and not find yourself "praying to the beat".
