It's interesting that many of the criticism of this album come down to "This band isn't REAL metal" ...for REAL metal search out Pantera/Slayer/Cradle of Filth (insert name of band with screaming male lead). Okay, if what you like is bands with a screaming male lead, you *probably* won't like Evanescence, I'll give you that. Other criticisms? "They aren't *real* goth, for *real* goth check out Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, etc." like it's a competition to be *more gothic* or something (and FYI I love Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil, Nightwish is okay, I like a few songs). Other criticisms include "Evanescence sucks live" when I doubt anyone who hates the band obviously this much would shell out $70 to see them live (I've ... Read More:

The Open Door

by: Evanescence

Release Date October 03, 2006
Evanescence features a wonderful female singer named Amy Lee. Amy has a very good, deep sounding voice. You won't have the generic female singer that the mainstream is used to. The music in this one has a good amount of variety to it. Sometimes you will hear rock music, electronica, or some weird other sounds. One problem I have with this one though is that Amy Lee sounds the same in most of the sounds. Still, she sounds good, just the same.

The obvious audience for this one is someone who feels weak and wants to rise up. Not in a political way, but in a more emotional way. Soem of the lyrics are based around females more then males, but you can deal with it.

Songs like "Lithium" and "Weight of the world" are my personal ... Read More:

EVANESCENCE "Origin" CD by BIGWIG, 11 tracks

by: Evanescence

Release Date
I have not bought this cd on amazon or anywhere else, as I am from Little Rock, Arkansas and very familiar with Ben, David and Amy and their artistic abilities. I do have an original copy of Origins that I bought at one of their local shows many years ago. The cd DOES have a hidden track on it, but if you are looking for it at the end of the CD you are terribly mistaken. The hidden track, and the true way to find out if you have an original copy of the cd, is to start track one and hold the rewind button on your cd player down where track 1 will start counting into the negative. The hidden track is an outtake of the Origin track "Anywhere" which is a beautiful duet with Amy Lee and David Hodges. The outtake has David going to hit a high note and ... Read More:

The good or the bad?

This CD has both. I think that most of my favorite Evanescence songs are here (good) as well as a few on their more varied, less-liked sophomore effort. But at the same time, the riffs, while a bit heavier for a POP band, get repetitive by the 5th song (bad), leaving out the 4th completely because it has no heaviness whatsoever. I actually used to hate that about My Immortal (track 4) but considering that I just bought the import version "used" but brand new and still in plastic, I can appreciate it for I have what's NOT on the U.S. version - My Immortal the rockier version (band version)(the closer) (good!). So both being present is definitely a good thing!

But back to the album as a whole. It's good and bad. ... Read More:

Going Under

by: Evanescence

Release Date September 30, 2003
Possibly 3 minutes of the worst rock you will EVER hear! It's so over-rated, it makes me wanna puke. Amy Lee sounds like she's dying a horrible death! She's NOTHING compared to Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil. Want a good rock single? Listen to "Swamped" by Lacuna Coil.

Bring Me to Life

by: Evanescence

Release Date March 11, 2003
Bring Me to Life is a very good song that could be a great song if it weren't for Paul McCoy's half-witted, grunting vocals (and I use the latter term very loosely) that are every bit as laughable as Gary Glitter's goofy rock chants. Amy Lee is an incredible talent and should insist upon singing every single word in this band!!
