Goin' All Out

This is an awesome smooth jazz CD. Packed with flavor and flare. It has a total different sound, a sound you will fall in love with. This is amazing CD for someone his age, and this is only his third CD. I can't wait for his next ones. This young man has a great career ahead of him.

French Clarinet Art

Was looking for a new recording of some French clarinet music. Looked through the list of many such recordings and found this. Wow, this clarinet player can play. His rendition of the Poulanc is remarkable to hear. If you like this sort of music, this is one of the disks to own. Also a good clean sounding disk. When I ripped this into iTunes, the song list ended up in Japanese so I did have to recreate the list in english.

Most of the music on this disk was unknown to me, but I was glad to make its acquaintance. The performances are crisp, clean, clear and elegant; in a word, French. Having recently been in Paris I could safely make the connection to the place with this music instantly.

Unbelievable rythms that are smooth and make you want to dance. This CD is not new but it's a must have if want to keep a cool party moving. This artist puts the swing on it for real.

While the entire album reflects the pacing and emotion of the film, the last track, "Ray's Theme" is the real gem. Much like the movie, the soundtrack builds to it's climax when Ray finally steps into the role of "hero" and the music follows suit. I purchased the CD for that final track, but I enjoy the finale much more after listening to the entire score. If you liked the movie you'll like the soundtrack.

French Connection

I bought this from my CD club as a freebie during a promotion. I was very impressed by Pahud in his recording of the Khachaturian and Ibert concertos and wanted to hear something else by him.

This is like a lot of collections by big name soloists. It includes a lot of unrelated music done up for virtuoso effect. Some of it is not particularly French, either, including the leadoff piece, a waltz by Shostakovich.

But everything is interesting and, to me, sometimes a bit bizarre. It was difficult for me to listen to an hour's worth of unrelated music for flute, piano, clarinet and other instrumental collections. The piercing tones of the flute, which were sometimes recorded very closely, were bothersome.
