Lets be honest, Enigma used to be something to move to. You guys know. That was a factor in you owning the first one. MCMXC to The Screen Behind the Mirror were good; I even bought both LSD's. But you knew back at E2 that things could go south quick by Cretu cranking out those kooky lyrics. I remember hearing that "man being the dream of the dauphin" and thinking "strange, I had no idea anyone knew what dauphins dreamed about," but hey, I was working and ignored it. Nothing quite like moving to the beat and then hearing about the American Indians being destroyed by "The Cross of Changes" to help move ya. But 14 years later, he's been unchecked and now its way too weird. Seriously, do you want to be doing your thing and then all of a ... Read More:

I've found the last couple of Enigma albums overall weak and lacking the magic of the early ones, in particular the first trilogy: I applaud "bandleader" Michael Cretu for doing more "experimental pop", but in the process, it's either sounded like his much earlier music (which he did under his real name), or in other cases (like A Posteriori), made strides towards a more cohesive, astral theme... but the gated synth sounds themselves were too dissimilar to Enigma's core, sounding more like a side project or the work of a team of 2nd-rate remixers.
I'm hoping that the upcoming Seven Lives, Many Faces album will both draw from Enigma's amazing heritage and advance forward with elements that aren't too distant, but definitely novel -- a tricky balance, ... Read More:

This is a GREAT album and if you're an Enigma fan you will already know that almost ALL of their CDs have ONE main 'tune' or melody that Cretu arranges/mixes in many different ways. I find myself humming one arrangement and skipping to parts of another track on the same CD. They blend together naturally. That's also the reason why most of the tracks continue on right into each other-without pauses in between.
There is definitely a 'Cosmos' feel....i.e. futuristic/other-worldly feel to this CD.

MCMXC A.D.--Enigma's debut album--was released in 1990. The seven compositions are seamless and play like an extended piece. The material is in a New Age musical direction. The album's sound quality is pleasing. I have always enjoyed listening to this piece of work over the years. Words to characterize MCMXC A.D. would be mysterious, refined, smooth, and creative. I like every one of the tracks. The Gregorian chants, the sounds of the flute, and the pulsating beats are what I find most memorable about this album. The disc is just over 40 minutes. MCMXC A.D. is recommendable.

Much as I love all the Enigma albums, this is my favorite. It is just so different from all the others, especially the debut. They went eastern with this. More Middle Easternish sounding, but we'll call it "eastern". Like the debut, a good album to relax to.

I first heard of this cd when it was first advertised on tv in the 90's but honestly thought nothing of buying it. However in 2001 I happened to spot this cd when I was stationed in Japan and am happy to have spent my money on this cd. Due to the variety of the songs I feel that this cd is good to listen to at work , when you are spending time with your loved ones, and relaxing and nurturing yourself when you are alone. Some of the notable tracks that really stand out in a positive way for me are
"return to innocence" by enigma
"orinoco flow" by enya
"sweet lullaby" by deep forest
"tubular bells" by mike oldfield
"sadeness" by enigma
There are other good tracks on this cd that are also enjoyable. This album among the first ... Read More:

My only real "un-favorite" Enigma album. Good for relaxation, but it seemed to me this was just a "well, we need to put out an album" sort of thing. I have mixed feelings about this album. It's the only one I don't listen to frequently, but it is Enigma.
Release Date November 26, 1996
It's been a few years since its release, but this is THE Enigma CD, from the trilogy it's the best, it's full of Enigma's 'trademarks' such as the Shakuhachi flute and Gregorian monk chants; and songs such as "Beyond the Invisible' and 'TNT for the Brain' will blow your mind, there's not one song in this CD that is not worth listening to, it's a winner in every way, just like in MCMXC and 'The Cross of Changes', Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! brings back the joyful and Gothic motif [I'm talking from the middle ages not the 'new' Gothic] Enigma has always put in its music. Michael Cretu is a musical genius!
