Once again I feel compelled to comment on Emmylou's music. When I first saw this disk I read various reviews here whining that this album is a "downer" and the like. I smiled to myself and bought it without a second thought. I would have bought it no matter what the reviews said. Yes, Emmylou sings about pain, but she also sings about redemption and perseverance, the dawn that follows the darkness. Anyway, what price do you put on music that brings tears to your eyes?
But I am writing just to comment on one track from this disk. "All That You Have Is Your Soul", a song that did not grab me when I heard the author's version two decades ago, is rescued here and made Emmylou's own. The song includes the lines: "hunger only for ... Read More:

This is one of my most listened to cds. Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler...They just seem to fit together, each bringing their own compliment to the songs....A great cd
Release Date July 19, 2005
This is a great CD for fans of Emmylou Harris. It has many favorite songs that I remember from previous CDs and also some tracks I hadn't heard before. As always, her voice delivers a true clear quality and her cover of "Love Hurts" was a genuine (and great) surprise! I would highly recommend this CD for fans of bluegrass and country rock as there are tracks that will please both audiences.

I appreciate the service and product availability offered by Amazon - I replaced an old tape with a CD, and am extremely pleased with the results!

I loved the movie and my basset hound sang along to a few of the tunes in the movie; however she (the basset) did not respond at all to the music from the sound track, and this was a little disappointing, but I liked it a great deal.

At first, this was the first Emmylou album I listened through. At first I was a little bit disappointed but even the next time I started to like it much more. It seemed like all the songs were opening. "All My Tears", "Orphan Girl", and "Where Will I Be" were the easiest ones. "Deeper Well" may sound a little bit strange but it's one of my favorites in this album. The title track opened for me in the 6th listening time. If you have listened only Emmylou's 70's albums, you may feel a little bit disappointed at first but give it a chance! It's a great album, a little bit slower than the first Emmylou albums but it has it moments. I have listen to it more than ten times, and the only song that sounds boring is "May This Be Love".

"[T]he collection is more of a marketplace filler than a cohesive artistic statement." It's a collection of duets, entirely appropriate in that that's precisely what Ms. Harris does best: sing harmony with others, many of whom would be difficult to accompany (Dylan, for one). Not a cohesive artistic statement? Mr. McLeese's comment would be right at home with observations made by people coming out of a Bergman film and, lacking the good sense to shut up because they didn't get it, say things like, "The lawn functions quite well as a symbol of alienation, but it is perhaps a bit heavy-handed." Ignorance is tolerable, but when it become aggressive, it is at least annoying. --Michael Punches Duets

This is a great collection of Emmylou's work.
Unfortunately there is not a big support base here in Australia for Emmylou and it is great to be able to get her music from you. I am impressed with the quality of your business and the handling of my order.
Thank you very much.

I have had an LP copy of this album since it came out, which was before CDs. I wore out two cassette tapes and then purchased two CDs of it. It was one of the first albums on which I found that I liked every song on it.
No doubt about it, Boulder To Birmingham is my favorite.
Not many have the staying power of Emmy Lou Harris. She is, quite simply, wonderful.
Release Date November 14, 2006
1. The music on the CD and the DVD is flat-out wonderful. Heavy, constant rotation on the in-home and in-car music systems. Can't get Romeo and Juliet out of my head. Boulder to Birmingham and Red Dirt Girl are stunning. Get a towel for If This is Goodbye (and note the commentary on this tune in the DVD interview).
2. The DVD is more problematic. Great interview segment with Knopfler and Harris. Well produced, good commentary, a cool production space that it was shot in. A mix of points of view, video and stills and a well mixed audio track make it interesting and entertaining.
But the concert video, now that's a different story. It's clear that the production was done with good gear, you can occasionally see some of it moving around in the background of ... Read More:
