Like the title says Elton John always sings a good song. I can't think of any song that he has sung that has been a dud. He is one of a kind and truly a genius of his time. He sings with great passion and his music is good to listen to when you are feeling up or down. Don't get me wrong, he is not my favourite musican but one that always comes up with a hit. Greatest hits album? Why not take it through to 2008 because the hits just keep coming. Knowing what songs is on the CD helped me want to buy it because each one holds a special place in my heart for different reasons. This CD will be in my collection forever because a legend is a legend. Want to know more about this CD or Elton John, then buy it! You will find out what I am talking ... Read More:

I remember this album, and the times. Not only does this music show his versatility, around this time, he also did the movie "Tommy" with Tina Turner, Ann Margret and Roger Daltrey, and showed his comedic ability on "Cher" a cbs/tv special(that got a 28.9 rating according to Nielsen Media Research)
By the way, I wonder how much help Elton John's benefit 'Hillary Clinton for President' concert was to her, after all, she won more votes than any other Presidential primary candidate in history.

Elton John has had MANY classic albums over the years, and that's why people remember him as the top 5 musicians of the 70's. The early days were really good too.
While the western/country pop rock style of Elton John is one of the main things people note about Tumbleweed Connection, it should also be noted that despite sounding different from the pop rock commercial phase of Elton John's career (starting with the "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" album) his typical style of piano pop on Tumbleweed Connection isn't really any different from any other song you've heard by Elton John. It just *sounds* different with the western influences. The songs are still written the same way as usual.

Two words should do it: Classic Elton. But I'm a man of many words, so... The first album I ever bought - back when there was ONLY vinyl - was Elton's Honky Chateau. That started a love affair that I thought would never end. Unfortunately, it ended 15 or more years ago when Elton seemed to stop trying, but everything up to and including "Reg Strikes Back" has amazed me. As for this disc, there's a reason that "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon" still get constant radio play - they are totally awesome. But my favorite track is the title cut, a haunting song that Elton delivers with a passion I miss, but fortunately preserved for all time. Now remastered, it stands the test of time. "Goodbye Yellow Brick" may be Elton's career-defining disc, but this ... Read More:

I saw the play in London while I was on vacation two years ago and it was fantastic. The film is great but the music from the play is complely different. If you enjoyed the soundtrack from the film you must hear the cast soundtrack.

As one reviewer wrote of Elton's next album, "Don't Shoot Me...," at that point in his career the brooding singer-songwriter Elton had "left the building," but the fresh, new talented pop star Elton had taken his place, and the change would prove more than equitable going forward from there. Well, a few months earlier, with "Honky Chateau," singer-songwriter Elton opened the door to that building and put his first foot through it on his way out, saying hello to his pop star alter ego making his entrance.
Gone were the darker, somber songs and arrangements, as well as the assembly of studio musicians. Elton put his creative foot down and insisted his road band play on the album, thus beginning the amazing run of the original Elton John Band that would garner ... Read More:

Yep, I know...it's mostly my own fault, but when I saw Elton John's Greatest Hits had been reissued I badly wanted to upgrade my old MCA CD which had less-than-great sound quality.
I read the product description under the "Editorial Reviews" header, and it said: "Digitally remastered reissue of his 1974 'Hits' collection on a 24 karat gold CD from DCC. Featuring every one of his Top 10 singles recorded up to that point, 'Your Song', 'Rocket Man', 'Honky Cat', 'Crocodile Rock', 'Daniel', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', 'Bennie and the Jets', 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me' plus three more tracks. Standard jewel case"
AHHHH...but I missed the last sentence disclaimer: "--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title." ... Read More:

One of the BEST Elton John albums EVER! Grew up with the album and could not find the CD for years. So glad that I searched Amazon! This is the only CD that rides in my truck and I listen to it at least once a week.
