City That Care Forgot portrays very well how Dr. John feels about the aftermath of Katrina. Though this album is a little off the beaten path for Dr. John because his anger, it is still another excellent disc. I live in New Orleans and have seen Dr. John perform at Voodoo Festival in 2007. He echoes much of my city's sentiments and its music superbly.

I love this album. The songs, the piano, the vocal, the band, uh is there anything else? This is all day music. I say it is his best and one of the best from the 70's.It's got soul and funk and it's real. Nuff said yall.

I love the darker, murkier side of Dr. John like Walk on Guilded Splinters and Gris Gris Woman, so there are several songs that aren't to my taste, but it is a great cd and worth the money.

As the memory banks brought the song to the forefront, aided by some current Dr.John news (he is doing some great charity work) this CD further cemented his pace in the musical grand hall.

There's absolutely nothing else out there like this one. Swampy and funky psychedelic voodoo gumbo music with chanting background vocals, mandolin, clarinet, tribal percussion, harpsichord, organ, and an odd and bizarre arrangement of instruments which creates a strange and smoky nocturnal atmosphere like a ritual under a full moon on a hot summer night in the bayou jungle. Dr. John Creaux, the Night Tripper, is the "Grand Zombie", our sort of Halloween guide on this after hours voyage which can be a party of the weirdest kind as well as an equal parts earthy and eerie head trip. Give it a spin. Your record collection will never be the same.

N'Awlinz: Dis Dat or d'Udda

I'm new to Dr. John, so I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this. I've listened to it several times now, and while I enjoyed the first listen, it keeps getting better. It's like a rich musical gumbo (sorry about that) with lots of texture. Yeah - that's the ticket - texture. It's not a particularly joyous album, but a rather somber and earthy one, with a quality of writing and musicianship that is rare these days. I plan to buy many more of his discs.

You would hope that music of this calibre was properly recorded and mastered, and fortunately N'Awlinz was. This disc has audiophile quality sound that would be difficult to improve upon. Mercernary

When we heard Mr. Rebennack (Dr. John) sing jazz standards in the 80's like "My Buddy" and "Accentuate the Positive" we saw him as a gifted singer. I know him before my marriage as the "gris-gris man" and had a picture of him framed in my college dorm room. Someone started the rumor that he was my father! I went to see him in concert in Montreal. He was an amazing performer and had a magic with jazz styles. We have listened to most of this CD with sound samples and we are apologetic to inform you that it almost entirely sucks! If he sees this: Hey Mac!!! You can do way better than this!!!
