Simply put, this is the DEFINITIVE recording of this musical. Dorothy Loudon will always be the best Ms. Hannigan (sorry Carol!), Andrea McArdle will always be the best Annie, and Reid Shelton will always be the best and brassiest Daddy Warbucks. Also, the wonderful songs that were cut from the 1982 film are all here and an absolute delight: "We'd Like to Thank You, Herbert Hoover," "NYC," "Getting a New Deal For Christmas," etc. Don't hesitate to buy this delightful album to a musical that is far more political than smaltzy than most people would think.

Dorothy Loudon ate Life with a big spoon. On Broadway, she literally chewed scenery as the original Miss Hannigan in "Annie," the wacky star of "Noises Off," and Angela Lansbury's replacement in "Sweeney Todd." She ended her career as the loopy, gun-toting socialite in Clint Eastwood's film of "Midnight In The garden of Good & Evil." But before Broadway, she was a torch singer in New York's piano clubs, with her husband, pianist Norman Paris. Piano bars ruled in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Karaoke killed them in the 90's. But everyone knew the songs and everyone sang along. This album preserves "A Man Without A Woman," "Shanty In Old Shanty Town," and "Ace In The Hole," as well as the most heartbreaking ballads of the era. When Dorothy died, her casket ... Read More:

So when I ordered this CD i didnt expect much from it. Its older, and about ballroom dancing. But the music is quite soothing, and not at all "old." The show is sweet and intamite with lots of duets. But the star voice is definitly Lynn Roberts. Wow has she got a sweet smooth voice. So in short, this is one for amature collectors, and up. Probably not the best for someone who likes Wicked, but thats the only show they know. Favorite Song: "I've Been Waiting All My Life"
