I've often wondered if I'm the only person alive who saw "Seesaw!" It's been sadly neglected. Michele Lee was wonderful, and it was a great introduction to a guy named Tommy Tune.. The music is very enjoyable. Highly recommended for Broadway show lovers!

My best friend and I had the opportunity to see the actual Broadway production of Sweet Charity staring Christina Applegate back in December of 2005. It was an amazing show! This soundtrack/CD is awesome. It puts me right back on Broadway in New York City. Christina Applegate is spectacular. I love this album and recommend it to everyone.

Fellini's NOTTE DI CABIRIA adapted into a Broadway show? Almost impossible! Yet, here it is, wonderfully conceived. The music, the lyrics and the interpreters are terrific. Through the music, you really sense it's Fosse material. This digitally remastered edition is technically perfect. If you have the movie soundtrack, get this theatre version as well because it contains songs that did not appear in the film. Destined to become a landmark in the history of the Broadway show.

I still can't believe that this musical made it for the Tony as Best Musical. Most probably Miss Verdon was marvelous in the theatre production, but as this is an opinion for the soundtrack, I may say that I found it awfully boring and quite dissapointing. Once you listen to the album, it's difficult to remember one single tune since they simply respond to the most conventional clichés for a musical. I wouldn't recommend it except to fanatic collectors of Tony award winners.

A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN features a fabulous early musical appearance by Shirley Booth (BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA, JUNO). Based on the stories by Betty Smith, Miss Booth played the comic role of Cissy, with Marcia van Dyke as Katie, the main dramatic role in the piece. It played for a reasonable 267 performances, though it had the potential to have been a mega-hit. However the show was unfortunate in that it opened in the same season as THE KING AND I, GUYS AND DOLLS and CALL ME MADAM. How could it hope to compare or compete?
The score by Arthur Schwartz and Dorothy Fields (who would go on to write the score for Shirley Booth's BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA) includes several delights with standouts "Look Who's Dancing?", "I'm Like a New Broom", "I'll ... Read More:

I certainly cannot add any more than what the previous reviewer stated, but I do have something to say. I have an office job and like to listen to pleasant music while I work. I have listened to this CD quite a few times and have never found it to be dull or boring. I am just an average guy who likes decent music. One of my favorite classical pieces of all time is Ralph Vaughn Williams "Fantasia on a Theme" which is included on this CD (Mp3). Overall, I believe Decca has done a commendable job with this series. If you are very particular about your music, maybe you will consider it to be a three. But, if you are like me, you will find that at worst it is a 4 and in my estimation, deserves a five.

When I was in College in the 1950's we used to cluster around an old concert grand in the living room of the fraternity house.and sing a lot of fine old songs. I usually looked at the authors. I noticed that many of the lyrics were credited to one Dorothy Fields in a field dominated by cigar smoking denizens of Tin Pan Alley. I thought this a curious fact, and wondered how she came to be a lyricist. I never found the answer until I encountered this CD while browsing Amazon.
It was a revelation. There she was singing her own songs one memorable night in New York while revealing intimate details of her life and the circumstances surrounding the songs.. Her voice is about the same quality we achieved around the piano, (not exactly concert level), In this case it is is ... Read More:
