It seems very rare over the past few decades that any group actually is able to follow-up a great album with another great one, but DTB has pulled it off. Not to mention that they are making music in a niche that they more or less created.

I've listened to the album a few times already and I'm still not sure I'm ready to say that it's better than the last album, Life's a Ride, but I have a feeling I will eventually rank this album higher. This album is produced almost to perfection - there are a few background vocals I could do without but no major complaints there. I fell in love with Velvet Goldmine the very first time I saw it - in large part thanks to this soundtrack. But when you look at the roster of names involved with this project - Michael Stipe, Brian Eno, Thurston Moore, Placebo, Thom Yorke of Radiohead - it should come as no surprise -greatness begets greatness!

There are really no weak songs on this soundtrack. Needle in the Camel's Eye is simply infectious - this song - which opens the movie - was as subtle as a slap in the face and immediately grabbed my attention. The closing song - Steve Harley's Make Me Smile - conveys the sheer joy and passion music can provide. And all of the songs in between are even better.

Positive Friction

I first heard No Place Like the Right Time two years ago on a college radio station from Hartford, CT WWUH. I just had to know who this was singing this wonderful song. Luckily WWUH can be heard on the internet [...] and I was able to get the playlist that morning. I immediately bought Positive Friction and after listening to the album, I had to have it all.
I am now a 100% devoted DTB fan and I can't get enough. I am eagerly awaiting their next album. If you have the opportunity to see them live you will be totally mistified as I was at the Rhythym and Roots Festival where I first saw them. They are by far the best fun band out there right now in my opinion.

Life's a Ride

I think this is one of their best. Not only is the songwriting pretty strong, especially Tara's stuff, but the production on this one is really good.

I miss Jimmy Miller. He probably had the best voice in the band, but the really nice sound of the album and great songwriting balances the loss out.

Wait Til Spring

I've seen Donna dozens of times, and I've seen Lauderdale play with them numerous times as well. I love Donna the Buffalo, but I have to say that they've never sounded better than backing up Lauderdale on this peach of a record. Their live shows together are unbelievably fun, rockin', and intense and this is the closest you'll get to that (unless you know one of the peple who tap into the sound board at Grassroots). All accomplished musicians playing and singing songs wiritten especially for their unique sound. You won't be disappointed.

Live from the American Ballroom

If you're a Deadhead you should love Donna the Buffalo. This is a great jam band with wonderful musicians that play really well together and enjoy each other's company. Apparently they are huge on the East Coast, but have yet to make it out here to the Left Coast.
Great energy, good vocals and a wonderful crowd presence make this a "must have" for those who enjoy this genre of music.

The Ones You Love

If you're a Deadhead you should love Donna the Buffalo. This is a great jam band with wonderful musicians that play really well together and enjoy each other's company. Apparently they are huge on the East Coast, but have yet to make it out here to the Left Coast.
Great energy, good vocals and a wonderful crowd presence make this a "must have" for those who enjoy this genre of music.

This is the best festival music out there, if you're not looking for straight traditional stuff. Great feel-good tunes, played with great intelligence. Comparing them with anyone else is tough, but at times they're almost Dead-like, others they slide into an old-time string band feel, even if the instruments are all modern. Plus, there's an organ, which automatically quaifies it for 5 stars. I guess you could call it soft rock, but from the late 60's period, but with a brain.
