The music and songs are wonderful. I have this CD in my car and listen to it over and over. It is especially well done. I am enjoying every song the more I listen to them. "The Prayer" with Charlotte Church is one you can sing to.

Don Williams, a.k.a. "The Gentle Giant", has been writing and singing his mellow country songs since the 1960s. The Definitive Collection goes back to 1973's Come Early Morning and ends with Heartbeat In The Darkness from 1986. This time period and the songs on this collection are the heart and soul of Williams' successful career.
The Don Williams sound is smooth, rich and mellow, but it's also authentically wise and kindly rugged. He's tall and considerate, just as his nickname implies, but he's also famous for his old worn leather hat and friendly bearded face. Don's singing voice and demeaner are as laid-back as Andy and Aunt Bee sittin' on the front porch while sippin' iced tea on a pleasant summer night. The songs are humble ... Read More:

For those of you unfamiliar with Josh Groban this is a great way to start. It is his first cd - self titled - What a voice. He has several other cd's as well as dvd's (awesome by the way) He changed my life - We call ourselves Grobonites a proud name to bear. Whatever you've heard about the music - if you haven't listened you truly need to. You will not be sorry about the investmant you've made. He has a charitable foundation that helps bring medicine and drinking water to villages in Africa. His foundation also works with AIDS patients. I consider this release\compilation to be the greatest classical bargain of 2007-a year of many complete issues such as Bach and Mozart on Brilliant classics(before 07).
Stravinsky is the conductor for almost all the performances with the CBS orchestra and, though recorded in the early to late 60's, the sound is spectacular. I am listening to disc 1(for the tenth time) and still love the ambience of old tape recordings(which I find far superior to much of today's DDD and DSD. I will take warmth, substance, and presence over clinical precision and unrealistic detail any day of the week.
Much of the works here are the performances of said works. Of course the rite of spring has been reproduced about as many times as the bible, so it is difficult ... Read More:

I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

I have always thought Don Williams deserved a lot more credit than what he got. He has a great country music voice. Don can make any song his own. He's that good. And in 2000, he was awarded a collection in UMG's series '20th Century Masters.'
This is the best of Williams' MCA years. How does this collection measure up?
Positives
-Every Williams hit on the MCA label is here. 'I Believe In You,' 'Tulsa Time,' and ''Til The Rivers Run Dry' all appear on this set.
-THE SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT!!!
-You get underrated classics here. 'She Never Knew Me,' 'Say It Again' and 'Good Ole Boys Like Me' all appear on this set.
Negatives
None.
Overall, this is an excellent Williams set and it's perfect ... Read More:

It's a cute CD...I love the fact that they used the voices from the movie and not some other people like most animated Soundtracks do. I especially love that they put in the clips of the movie like where chicken little sang "We are the champions" but revised it to "I am the champion," and he only sang up to a certain part of the song. It's a good CD.

One thing you can say about Don Williams - after he left the folk/country trio The Pozo Seco Singers as their lead vocalist [along with Susan Taylor and Lofton Kline] following their last Billboard Pop Hot 100 in 1967 [Louisiana Man - # 97 - none of their cuts ever made the Country charts], he demonstrated that he was pure Country.
With 56 hit singles from 1973 to 1992 he never changed his style to pander to the pop charts, whether recording for JMI [6 hits in 1973/74], Dot [1 in 1974], ABC/Dot [8 from 1975 to 1977], ABC [3 in 1978], Phono [1 in 1980], Warner [1 in 1981 - a duet with EmmyLou Harris], MCA [18 from 1979 to 1985], Capitol [9 from 1986 to 1988], and RCA [9 from 1989 to 1992].
In that span he registered 17 # 1 hits, 22 more that ... Read More:
