Friday Night in San Francisco

by: Mclaughlin, Di Meola, Delucia

Release Date September 23, 1997
There aren't enough superlatives to describe this performance. So I won't even try. I will say that my entire perception of "guitar" was forever changed the first time I heard this album. Not only because of the effortless 200 mph runs but moreso because thee guys can do this while paying attention to and complementing eachother's playing.

Friday Night in San Francisco is a beautiful recording with plenty of raw emotion, despite what some other reviewers have said. Once you have removed your jaw from the floor and pay attention to the phrasing, song structure, sheer improvisation, and interplay of three geniuses in their prime, you will add this to your desert island list.

Something else that I really like about this ... Read More:

Friday Night in San Francisco

by: John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia, Al DiMeola

Release Date October 25, 1990
Any one of these guitarists will stun you with their technique. Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucia are outstanding musicians who have produced some really good work individually. Put them all together under one roof for a night of jamming and you have one great concert recording.

Each of the players here has a unique style, so there's no real sense of things running together. Dimeola is a straight-charger with intense staccato flurries that defy transcription. McLaughlin employs both picked and legato runs, along with a great sense of timing. De Lucia's Spanish flamenco style is smooth and elegant. From start to finish, all three turn in top notch performances. Highly recommended for those who appreciate excellent guitar music. ... Read More:

Passion, Grace & Fire

by: John McLaughlin with Al Di Meola and Paco DeLucia

Release Date October 25, 1990
This album is a miracle. I could stop here and you have enough words to understand the level this album belongs to. I'm bored when I read reviews where people point out a music as too technical or stuff like this. This music is technical for sure but it is absolutly marvellous and totally blazing on the emotional level. This album is a trip. When I listen to this one sometimes I find myself unable to listen to nothing else for a while. Technique is not against emotions especially in albums like this one! If you are not skilled enough to appreciate the beauty these players produced here, please, don't write reviews! This album is flamenco, jazz, classical, latin, it is simply three mindblowing musicians that united to produce the last word in acoustic guitar music ... Read More:

CD-Charts Music : Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts: Songs of Stephen C. Foster

Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts: Songs of Stephen C. Foster

by: Jeffrey Dooley

Release Date April 13, 1999
Taking Stephen Foster's music out of the parlor and into the concert hall is not a new idea but here it just does not work. Jeffrey Dooley, a noted countertenor whose repertoire includes the works of Handel and Purcell, composers whose music responds to countertenors with excellent effect, renders a performance here that sounds like it was recorded inside a box, resulting in a high-pitched echo that hurt my ears and made it difficult to follow the lyrics of the songs. I gave this recording two stars because the instrumentals are quite good.
