Okay, I was a teenager in the 80's. And I mean, the entirety of my teenage years were in the 80's. Sadly, I had no connection with my peers at the time and totally missed 80's music.
Recently, I've been trying to catch up on what other kids were listening to back then.
Okay... I already knew two of these songs; "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong."
Upon hearing the rest of the disc, I'm impressed. I think I would have liked these guys had I heard them back when I thought everything the other kids were listening to was bubble-gummy crap.
There is, however, a maturity level to these songs that I think may have eluded me then... but that leads me to think I would have stayed a fan as I aged and the songs took ... Read More:

I had to spend some time with this album in order to fall in love. I am a HUGE Neil Finn & Split Enz fan, never truly catching on to the Crowded House frenzy...however... I always appreciated them. So, two months into owning this album, I can now give it a very favorable review. It is a departure from Neil's solo work, but not a far cry. The standout tracks for me are People Are Like Suns, Pour Le Monde, Say That Again and English Trees, however, the most "Crowded House-like" songs (and equally as good) are Nobody Wants To, Don't Stop Now and She Called Up. This is an album that grows on you, not an easy fix to an immediate need... more like a warm blanket that casually envelops you.

Ok true confessions first--I'm a huge Neil Finn fan and also had this when it was released 10 years ago as part of the Crowded House Fanclub live releases. This release improves on the original in one way--we get two discs instead of one. I really haven't compared this to my fanclub CD (hey, it's the only fanclub I belonged to and I did**honest**for the CDs)but this does seem a bit louder with less dynamic range. Nevertheless, I'm going with the five stars here for the performances.
I can't say I've done a head-to-head of late between this and the previous single disc edition so I don't know if any overdubbing was done. If it was, they did a masterful job of hiding it--the band sounds terrific (and yes, on a great night they sounded this ... Read More:

I picked up Woodface in a Dollar Bin at the flea Market as soon as I saw it, as if I had found a hidden gem and if I were to let go it would immidiatly be stolen. Now that may have been a little far fetched but it WAS a good find. This CD is something that you can pop in and let go. As you'r going about your business whilst listening to this album you will pause and say, "I liked that song" to every song. 'Nuff Said.

When I first listened to this, I had to agree that it is not quite up to the standard set by other Crowded House CDs. But these tunes stick in your head and grow on you. It just shows what a phenomenal musician Neil Finn is. This is not the best CH collection to start with, but if you are a fan, you will not be disappointed. Great price, too.

This album is an oldie but a goody. It really brings back a lot of memories, and proves that some music is timeless. I feel, in fact, that they were ahead of their time.

I got this album because my favorite actor, Charles Mesure, sang one of the songs in an interview for StarJam in Los Angeles in 2006. I found out about the interview on the Internet recently and wanted to listen to the song he sang. I'm not a music reviewer, but I like a lot about this album.
My favorite song is "Into Temptation" that inspired an idea for a story with a part for Charles Mesure to play in the movie version. The song is lyrical and exciting and seductive. Good job, Neil Finn!
"Better Be Home Soon" is second favorite with the lovely chorus.
I also liked the lowdown "Mansion in the Slums" and "When You Come" that reminds me of a Neil Diamond song. I enjoy listening to these so much that I short-change the others that deserve more attention. ... Read More:

I would put Neil Finn up against any songwriter. He has written some of the most haunting, delightful and enduring songs in my musical library. A few of the songs on this disc are among my favorite Crowded House songs: "Nails in My Feet," "Pineapple Head," "Walking on the Spot" and "Catherine Wheels" instantly connect--beautiful, lyrical and timeless. But even when the song carries a meditative or poignant tone, there is always a sense of lightness or even humor hidden within. I guess that's something I appreciate about Finn's songwriting--the layers of heart, wit and beauty that seem to weave together so naturally. The songs feel true to life.
