I actually really like this soundtrack. It is good, suits it's subject matter, and incorporates some interesting rhythms/percussion. I've previously enjoyed Craig Armstrong's work and this is far from being a poor effort on his part. If, like me, you appreciate a strong title theme this may still be a good investment. Just don't expect anything that you can hum along to. If you like fast paced action music and some darker suspense motifs this will be right up your alley. I strongly suggest that those who may be interested in such a purchase watch the movie first to get a feel for the context of the work. I do not feel that this soundtrack stands very well on it's own. It needs some back-story.

I agree with most of the reviews - the London staging is the very best of the English language versions of 'Les Miserables'. Forget the New York (Broadway) production, much too polished (sanitized ?). It pales in comparison. The American version benefits from greater sophistication but at the cost of the original book.
HOWEVER, for the first production of this musical, go to the recording on the 'Anthology' (French) label, issued by FGL Productions (the complete 1980 version). It has the cast of the premier, with 'guest appearances' by some big names in yesterday's French popular music, Michel Sardou, Salvatore Adamo, and Michel Delpech. And a list of superb actor-sings, like Maurice Barrier (Valjean), Rose Laurens (Fantine), ... Read More:

I first bought Moulin Rouge 2 soundtrack because I wanted the songs from the movie w/ the actual singers. But there's little of that on this soundtrack. It's a good compliment to the first soundtrack, but my collection still feels very short. Even with both CDs, I am still missing the *original* versions of the songs, sung by the actors, as they are sung IN the movie. The ones sung by the actors are remixed for the soundtracks, and most of them are not sung by the actors. There are a couple of instrumentals on this CD as well, which personally I don't care for. I bought the CD because I wanted to hear Ewan and Nicole sing, not a bunch of instruments!
If you're a Moulin Rouge fan, this is a good addition to your collection, but you'd be ... Read More:

One only good thing to come out of this horrible movie is a wonderful score. I was not a fan of the the first movie's music, but this had simply great moments. The Finale is positively great. This is one of the better scores you will find. I buy almost every movie score that comes out and this ranks in my top 10 of the past 2 years.

This CD is an intensely packed popourri of urban atmosphere, weather/seasons/time as well as feelings of love, sadness and anxiety, loneliness and belongingness juxtaposed. At times dramatic but not overweeningly so, the album is finely produced and the musical transitions flow very well together without relying too much on mechanic, or non-organic if you will, elements. It has silence.
The songs inspire creativity and contemplative modes and the cherries of the cake are for me the almost movingly soulful "Let's Go Out Tonight" that reminds one of dawn, or city after the rain, or two strangers or lovers meeting, and "This Love" that captures the feeling of ascendancy and determination, even sacrifice but also frustration experienced in love. Early Tangerine ... Read More:
