This is a great solo album by Colin Hay. Nice remix on "Overkill". I prefer these song versions over the original Men at Work versions.
Release Date May 31, 2005
This album is one really fine song wrapped in the brown paper covering of the rest of the album. "Waiting for my real life to begin" is the greatness of Men at Work that we all knew and loved. Beyond that song, Colin Haye really needs to find a song writer...

I ordered this along with an acoustic album by Colin Hay, "Going Somewhere". I listed to "Going Somewhere" first, and was mesmerized by its lovely acoustic vocals and guitar, which really let the songwriting shine. Then I popped in "Are You Looking at Me?" expecting more of the same. I was surprised to hear full arrangements on this album, but listened attentively to see if I was struck again by the songwriting and performance. I really wasn't. I feel the arrangements/production choices on several of the tracks contain distracting sounds or background vocals, and that they really take the focus away from the songwriting. Having recently discovered Colin's solo work, and read some about his love of songwriting, I have a genuine respect for him. ... Read More:

She is a natural talent that we will not likely hear from again. Unfortunately, Church was discovered too young, and rather than protecting the precious, amazing talent, it was used to make a quick buck. I'm sure that's what she thought she wanted, but now, several years later, her voice is showing evidence of the damage caused by the unrealistic strain put on her developing larynx and vocal folds.
I hope that she is able to come back. I hope that with rest and decent training, we find an artist that comes into her own and brings a whole new generation of vocalists and music lovers into an appreciation for classical singing.
The song selection was excellent for what it was... an album introducing the young diva to the public. A great selection ... Read More:

Colin Hay is superb, especially on this work which is acoustic. It allows the depth and range of his voice to really show through, not to mention his great guitar work. He's a guitar master and so very talented and entertaining in person also. He's a star always in my book.
Release Date September 09, 2002
I've been a fan of Colin Hay for about a year now and decided to pick this CD up before I got a chance to see him live in Agoura Hills. I'm glad I did as this has not stopped playing in my iPod since I bought. Simply one of the best CDs I own, bar none. The title track is gorgeous (and I was so excited that he played it, and "Lifeline" live) and has a great payoff in it's final line. The rest of the CD is just about as listenable as a CD can get. "Lifeline", "Beautiful World", "Small Town Big Hell"...you can't go wrong. Do yourself a favor and pick this up...now!

Being a fan of Colin Hay dates me, which is a shame, since a much wider audience would enjoy his body of work if only they were aware of it. I learned about this album in 1992 while listening to a jazz station in Orlando, FL. The station played Against the Tide, and I knew I had to buy the album.
I'll not repeat elements of the excellent review nearby. I really don't even expect that this review will be read. This album, and Colin Hay, are good enough to warrant this token show of respect.

Colin Hay. A man that has carved out his own niche in the music world with his determined solo work. Like so many, i first heard of Colin Hay from the MEN AT WORK band ( my favorite 80s band). The short lived career of that very good band didnt stop him from moving forward.
In this cd i found that similar style of catchy memorable melody that Colin had a gift for displaying in his previous band. And though it recalls a bit of that, its still unique from Men At Work.
Colin Hay is capable of holding his own in this album, becouse hes that good of a musician. All the things i loved about Colin Hay's style, shines through in this cd.
"Hold Me" is good, opening with some ethnic singing. Its actually quite good.
"Looking For Jack", which is one the tracks ... Read More:
