You are asking Dennis for a review, but I'm Joyce, Dennis' wife, and I'm the one who ordered this CD. A large part of the day, Dennis listens to a lovely Seattle jazz channel. I work at home and it makes a nice background to typing all day. But a particular piece stood out from the rest. I stopped typing every time it played, and I wanted to hear it over and over--we loved it. So, I tracked down the name and performer, and it was Love & Paragraphs by Chris Standring. Thanks for making it so easily available. Good price. Good delivery time. We're happy!!!

Soul Express

I'll be the first to say that I miss rummaging through used record and CD bins looking for those undiscovered gems. Heck, that's how I "discovered" most of my music. The Internet and Amazon has forever changed the CD discovery game. However, I'm not sure if I would have found Chris without Amazon. His CD was one of the recommended CD's for another CD I was scoping. So I listened to a few of his samples & decided to take a chance on Standring's "Hip Sway." Now I'm hooked. With me being a lover of jazz music, I can't believe Chris was not on my radar screen. Well he's squarely in the cross hairs now; I'm two CD's into his catalog and lovin' it!!! Soul Express

I agree this is Chris' best work to date and I say that even though "Groovalicious" is in my CD player at all times, so now is Soul Express. I have purchased five copies of this CD so far and sent them as gifts to a musically diverse group of friends. Each one has either called or emailed me expressing their delight with his work. That's the beauty of his work, it appeals to so many people; some not jazz lovers, some true jazz afficiandos.
I cannot wait until Love & Paragraphs comes out!

Hip Sway

I stumbled upon Chris Standring's Hip Sway as an Amazon recommendation while scoping out another CD. I listened to a few of his samples & decided to take a chance. Needless to say, I have thoroughly enjoyed this CD. I play it at work ALL the time. Standring's cover of the Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love" is very interesting.. Standring made the song his own with his riffs, yet he kept that 70s groove. "What Is Is," sounds like it could have been on a Roy Ayers album from the 70s. Not to mention the title is a tongue in cheek play on President Clinton's scandal with Monica Lewinsky. Believe me there's no scandal with Hip Sway, it's just plain good music.....

Velvet

I bought the Hip Sway cd first. Then Groovalicious, now Velvet. Does that tell you anything about how much I like this guy? This guy is fantastic with the guitar. He is funky soulful jazzie all rolled up in to one smooth groove. He jams from beginning to the end on all of these cds. You can't go wrong with either album.
