I bought this for my 3 year old daughter who has watch the move at least 20 times. I have this CD in my car. Anytime my daughter is in the car, she want us to put on Annie so, that she can sing along with it. It is one of the best soundtracks that we own.

I believe it was 1978 when my parents bought me the original broadway cast recording of Annie on vinyl. It was my favorite record of my childhood and now I'm grateful to be able to have it on CD and play it for my daughter. And while not everyone may appreciate it...I'll admit I got a big misty when I heard the first public performance of Tomorrow (track 27). While it horrifies me to think that there are people out there that truly believe Aileen Quinn was a better Annie than Andrea McArdle, it's nothing new to me either. A nice sampler. I bought it primarily for "Together, Forever" from Gypsy, though its nice to have the Broadway version of "Send in the Clowns (I believe by Glynis Johns). But it is just a sampler, and fans of Broadway music are probably better served buying the full original cast recordings.

Bye Bye Birdie (1960 Original Broadway Cast) Many of the classic Broadway musicals of mid-20th century are available as both movie soundtracks and as Broadway cast albums. Though all are enjoyable, the cast albums sound more natural, more enthusiastic, and more spontaneous than the (later) movie soundtracks. Probably that is because the cast albums were recorded shortly after the show opened on Broadway. The original cast album of "Bye Bye Birdie" is in this category. And there is more background about the musical. The excellent and lengthy liner notes recount the story of how the musical was written and developed into the evergreen musical that it became.

Love the TV movie! Especially love the TV-version soundtrack! A truly enjoyable, uplifting experience with a great cast! Whether you've seen the movie or not, you'll enjoy this soundtrack. It will lift your spirits to a whole new level. One of my top-ten favorite soundtracks, and I've collected hundreds! I highly recommend this for anyone at any age. Absolutely love it!

I do not own this CD or any other Bye Bye Birdie soundtracks. However, just from listening to the samples on this website I can tell which one is obviously the best. If you don't believe me, just listen to them yourself. I am comparing the songs from this, the 1995 television recording, the 1960 Broadway, and the 1963 movie. Here is a list of *some* of the songs and my opinions:

An English Teacher
1995: Vannessa William's voice is lovely.
1960: I prefer the first one. I think Chita Rivera's voice sounds too old fashioned.
1963: not included

The Telephone Hour

Of course there should have been much more. I remember there been a Metropolian Opera series called CAST ALBUMS- 100 YEARS that was put out for a limited time only and had like five volumes.
As Peter Filichia noted they left out SHE LOVES ME, BRIGADOON and SWEENEY TODD. Also nothing from PACIFIC OVERTURES, BIG RIVER, CHESS, CRAZY FOR YOU, JEKYLL & HYDE, TITANIC, THE SCARLET
PIMPERNEL, FOOTLOOSE- THE MUSICAL, THE FULL MONTY, URINTOWN...
But they couldn't have put it all. I would have done without Lee Remick's
"Anyone Can Whistle", because the show was a flop. I guess because it was Sondheim's first "serious" show...
