Years ago, I've baught an album (LP) from The Navy Band in Italy. I've never heard US-marches before, but liked them from the start.
Now I'm very happy to have this album and two other ones on CD.

Don't listen to all those elitists who gave Zimmerman a negative review- his playing is so unique and full of emotion. Contrary to what others have said, Zimmerman's tempo is much slower and better than many other artists' tempos. Though he doesn't play everything true to the sheet music, I feel that he wonderfully captures the spirit of ragtime. If you listen to some of Joplin's own recordings (via player piano), you will find that he himself added some jazzy improvisations. Although Zimmerman makes some mistakes, it somehow seems to add authenticity to his interpretation. The bad sound quality also adds this unique feeling of authenticity. Having played and enjoyed this music all my life, I have never heard it better played. Nothing beats this. I have the Eastman recordings with Fennell and as good as they are, this is better. Buy it and love it. Even a hackneyed piece like Barnum and Bailey sounds entirely fresh. Essential for every collection. If you have room for only CD of band masterpieces, this is it.

Victory at Sea

I purchased this CD thinking it would be more or less like the original sound track of the "Victory At Sea" TV series. It falls short in that respect. The music on this CD is of very good quality from a classical point of view but only track 10 called "Victory At Sea" which lasts 11 minutes is what I consider to be true music from the TV series and movie. The rest of the music has a nautical theme but looking at the front label makes you think you are getting all "Victory At Sea" selections. I would not purchase this CD if the sound track music is what you are looking for. If you just want good military band music with a hint of the "Victory at Sea" theme then this would probably be a good buy.
