carla bruni said in a recent interview that she hopes people will love her music; but if they don't listen to her because she's the first lady of France, she will also understand.

This album is in my opinion, less straight forward than her previous two. Carla experiments with more instrumentations and new sounds. There is a good variation of tunes and some of them take time to really delve into. My favorite is still her first album- simple, unpretentious. This one feels a bit hurried and unpolished.

Since the focus of this column is music, I won't dwell on supermodel singer Carla Bruni's recent marriage to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, because it's irrelevant to her recorded output -- at least so far. No Promises is Bruni's second album, an all-English setting of poetry by such icons as Yeats, Auden, Dickinson, and Parker. Given the introspective nature of these lyrics, it's no surprise that the album is a gossamer grab-bag of European air. Le Divorce: The Original Soundtrack Album

Don't be fooled by the soundtrack listing nor by the other reviews. There are "hidden" tracks on this CD. I mainly bought it for Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux. I wasn't thrilled by some of the score, but overall it's a good CD.

Parce qu'il n'y a pas un revue en francais: Voila.
cette cd est magnifique! j'adore! c'est le meiullere cd du monde!
Carla Bruni a une voix tres belle, et elle est belle aussi.
J'espere cette revue est bon pour les gens qui parle le francais. Desole si les mots ne sont pas parfait, j'etudie le francais pour justement 2 ans.

Quelqu'un M'a Dit

Bruni's sensual voice and the light melody of the guitar make these songs easy to listen to and quite enjoyable throughout, whether you parlez francais or not. Bruni gives the whole album a rather personal feel because her voice directs the songs, rather than having guitar, drums or bass. Each melody is beautiful, as the songs are well structured themselves, but the overall musical arrangement makes you want to whistle, hum, or even sing along.

One might compare her to Avril Lavigne, and the like, but their voices don't reach to what Bruni can achieve. Lavigne and the others seem to feel it's rather necessary to have a guitar pasted on top of their voice to achieve a good sounding song, but in reality, voice is king (or queen).
